The Torah:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was empty and formless”.
The original Hebrew text uses the phrase tohu wa-bohu (תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ), which roughly translates to “formless and void” or “a wasteland and emptiness”. This describes the initial unshaped, dark, and chaotic state of the earth before God began forming and filling it with light, land, and life.
When God created the earth, it already had form. The Genesis passage means: God created mind and body. The person seeks a reason why. The questioning Spirit hovers over the person. Darkness of ignorance is over the deep - the mind. God said “Let there be light - and there was light”. Light is intelligence; the person who sincerely questions existence finds answers.
This is a coherent metaphysical reading of the passage, particularly when we approach Genesis as a description of the processes at work within consciousness. Embedded within the text is the method Spirit uses to create, rather than the surface reading of solely cosmological events.
The key observation is: “And the earth was empty and formless”. If one takes Genesis literally, the Hebrew expression translated formless and void can be understood as a condition of disorder, desolation, or unformed potential. The meta-physical approach asks a simple question:
If God created the earth, why should it suddenly become formless?
The answer is that Genesis is speaking of the creation of the hu-man constitution. Thus: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Heaven = Spirit, higher faculties, invisible principles. Earth = Mind and Body, the field through which Spirit manifests.
And the earth was empty and formless. Mind and body exist, yet they lack orientation, purpose, understanding, and conscious participation in Divine Life. And darkness was upon the face of the deep. The “deep” refers to the depths of the mind, containing latent capacities yet remaining in ignorance regarding their purpose and relationship to God.
“And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”. Spirit is ever-present. It hovers, invites, prompts, urges, inspires, and awakens. The questioning mind hovers over the person.
This portrays spiritual awakening as an invitation. And God said, “Let there be light”. Light then becomes intelligence, understanding, illumination, insight, comprehension. The initiate asks:
Who am I?
Why am I here?
What is life for?
And in seeking, each initiate finds increasing degrees of light. This reading reveals that Genesis describes ReGeneration rather than just ancient history.
The movement becomes:
Spirit, Mind, and Body are present.
Consciousness is initially unformed.
Ignorance obscures purpose.
Spirit awakens questioning.
Intelligence dawns.
Order emerges.
The image and likeness of the EVER-LIVING become consciously embodied.
When a person feels the invitation of the Spirit and seeks a reason why - this is the beginning of the Science of Applied Meta-Physics, the root of all philosophy, psychology, science, religion, and spirituality.
The person who never asks “Why?” remains in darkness. The person who asks sincerely will be guided intuitively to begin to experience what Genesis calls “Light” as in “Let there be light”. Light = The full spectrum of Intelligence / Gnosis; communion with God.
The Torah is an Initiate’s handbook. In the beginning Mind and body are present, yet the initiate’s consciousness has not awakened to their purpose. Darkness of ignorance of the knowledge of SELF, covered the depths of the mind. The Spirit hovers, mind questions, and as the person seeks understanding, that is presented as: God said, “Let there be light,” and intelligence dawns upon the Soul.
The Torah describes the ReGenerative process from ignorance of Self to full understanding oneself as the daughter/son of God. Which is conscious existence and participation in Divine Life.
Mysteries of Genesis unfolds the basis of the meta-physical meaning of the Book of Genesis, as conception, and the four companion books encode the rest of the formative process of: “Let us make man into our image, after our likeness.”
This book presents the complete overarching process described in the Torah and an excerpt of the first of eight movements in the Book of Exodus; which describes the New Birth and the deliverance from materialistic bondage.
What this means in practical terms is that the Torah teaches the process, where the personal becomes universal and the material becomes Spiritual. Only in this way, via ReGeneration, does the Hu-man family take possession of the promised land and enter into consciousness of everlasting life.
People wonder why the world is as it is. The answer is that we’ve fallen from a great Spiritual height and have been deceived by our own senses and intellect. The Torah teaches the process of ReGeneration, of marrying the intellect to the feelings after it has been illumined by Wisdom. The new character formed is Wise and Loving.

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai after speaking with God, his face was radiant. Because the glowing light frightened Aaron and the Israelites, Moses wore a veil over his face when addressing them, only removing it when he went back into the Lord’s presence. The veil is now lifted and the message of the Torah is clear: If we desire to live and be saved from death; we must embody the Divine Law.
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore, choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed”.
The witness of heaven and earth is the experiences we have as we have sown in mind and reap in body and behaviour. The exact purpose of the veil: In Exodus 34, when Moses comes down from Mount Sinai, his face is radiating the raw, unadulterated light of the Divine EGO. Because the people are terrified and cannot look directly at that frequency, he covers his face with a veil.
Metaphysically, that veil is the literal text of the scripture itself—the outer layer composed of allegory, metaphor, numerology, simile, and symbolism.
The Veil as the Protective Container: The raw, blinding light of pure spiritual truth cannot be dropped directly into the unrefined lower mind without shattering it.
The Text as a Filter: The intellect cannot process pure Spirit directly; it needs form. Therefore, Spirit uses the “veil” of language to step down the voltage of the divine transmission.
The Hidden Radiant Face: Allegory and symbolism are the deliberate folds of the cloth that hide the blinding reality of the Divine “I AM” until the individual’s consciousness is mature enough to look upon it without fear.
The Five Folds of the Veil
Each mechanism serves as a specific lens to safely carry the light:
Allegory & Metaphor: They transform internal, psychological movements of the soul into external historical dramas (like the flight from Mitzraim), allowing the lower mind to grasp abstract Spiritual laws through familiar imagery.
Numerology: Numbers act as the absolute geometric and structural blueprint beneath the narrative, carrying exact vibrational measurements of consciousness that bypass the distortions of human translation.
Simile & Symbolism: They connect the physical, visible world of sense-consciousness directly to the invisible world of Spirit, turning everyday objects (like a rod, a bush, or a sea) into living gateways of deeper meaning.
Lifting the Veil
The fatal trap of the literal intellect is that it falls in love with the veil itself. It worships the historical story, argues over the literal rules, and mistakes the cloth for the face.
As long as a person reads only the literal surface, the veil remains over their mind. True enlightenment is the act of looking through the allegory, metaphor, and symbolism to feel the living, radiating warmth of the animating principle hidden underneath. The veil is not there to permanently hide the Light, but to preserve it until the seeker is ready to look Moses full in the face.
Exodus is the second book of the Torah / Pentateuch. Mysteries of Exodus lifts the veil with which Moses covered it, and presents it in plain English.
Exodus describes the process of ReGeneration and the New Birth from where Genesis left off. To start reading the Mysteries of Genesis, click here: Mysteries of Genesis Sample. I will update the website with the full volume in the coming weeks.
Together, the first five books of the Torah / Pentateuch describe the process of ReGeneration, with special significance placed on Leviticus describing in its twenty-seven chapters the process of growth and individual purification, where each person arises out of the lower carnal mind of the beast enslaved by the intellect (Satan), into the higher mind of Spiritual awareness and Jehovah.
Here is the full ReGenerative arc as presented in the five books:
The Book of Genesis establishes Conception.
The four companion books to Genesis carry the ReGenerative process forward through Birth, Growth, Development, and Maturity.

These movements reveal clear progression from inner numbering to ordered inheritance:
Numbering → Purification → Testing → Correction → Transition → Desire Tested → Renumbering → Boundaries.
The first census measures the consciousness beginning the wilderness journey, and the second census measures the consciousness matured through testing and preparing to cross the Jordan. Meta-Physically these teachings embed this as ReGeneration, self-control, and the emergence of a new generation of thought.

These movements reveal a complete spiritual progression:
Memory → Law → Love → Worship → Government → Daily righteousness →

Succession.
The word Maturity is exactly right for Deuteronomy. The teaching no longer reveals deliverance alone, it reveals consecration, or wilderness ordering. It is the soul brought to the threshold where it must remember, choose, and live from the Law inwardly established.

These five books set the stage for individual ReGeneration and the attainment of eternal life. This excerpt presents an overview for all those participating consciously in the ReGeneration, and also for all those yet to start.
The essential point to note is that our Body is our ‘Book of Life’ – a living record of everything we think, speak, eat, drink, do and experience. The Torah teaches how to overcome the lower beastly carnal mind, align with the Divine Law, and enter into consciousness of the flow of life and overcome death. The “Promised Land” is the body taken possession of by the Highest Ideals, purged of all evil and restored to the EVER-LIVING.

About Meta-Physics
Meta-Physics is not “searching for a black cat in a black unlit room, where there is no cat” as its most vociferous critics claim. It is a method of writing ‘to conceal, to reveal’.
What our forebears did was write the scriptures to conceal their wisdom for the day when the hu-man family had evolved enough Spiritually to discern what was hidden within them. What is hidden within them is the key to individual peace of mind, social harmony, and the ultimate salvation and attainment of conscious immortality for the whole hu-man family.
It is not only the Torah, where this information is concealed. It is concealed in the scriptures and practices of every culture. Each culture sought the answer to life’s most pressing problems and wrote down their findings and entrusted it to their wisest people to safeguard.
What study reveals is that each culture’s teachings we have access to, embed the same ReGenerative patterns. What we have in the Torah, and the New Testament, is also patterned into the teachings of the Aboriginals, the San/African tribes, the Indigenous American, the Inuit/Circumpolar, the Japanese, Chinese, Vedic/Indic, The Gospel of Thomas, Polynesian/Pacific, Russian Theosis (the process of union into God through Divine Grace), and more. Even the discoveries of modern science are mapping the same ReGenerative process.
All the world’s cultures have faced the same issue: How to civilise its people and live in peace, enjoying the gift of life. What is little known, is that they all independently dis-covered the mechanics of ReGeneration and embedded the teaching into their scriptures.
What has happened is that each culture has believed that they are the only culture possessing the Truth, and they have fought to defend it. None of the cultures have looked deeply at the others to realise that they’re all facing the same issues and have all dis-covered the same solution; the same Truth.
A 3,4m x 1,2m Chart is Available from: servadei.com specifically designed to illustrate in parallel the various cultures’ sacred teachings for public display. The purpose is to affirm that each culture has the same goals and only when the system is hijacked by Satanic influences do those posing as leaders use violence.
When the Hu-man family understands how it has been deceived, the Truth dispels the darkness and work on the ReGeneration can begin for those learning about the process for the first time, and continue peacefully for those already ReGenerating.

About this collection and other published works available.
The world is moving at breakneck speed. This is the product of a materialistic society which has bred fear, greed, anxiety and paranoia for millennia. The Hu-man family has been re-phrased as the ‘hu-man race’ and with that, has lost a great deal of its hu-manity, its kindness, its compassion.
This series of volumes on the Mysteries of the Torah ask you to slow down and take the time to nourish yourself and grow strong. The complete series lifts the veil of allegory, metaphor, simile and numerology from Moses’ five books, and shows how they are the foundation of the ReGenerative process. This book also lists the complete sixty-six books of the Helios Biblios, the Books of Light (Wisdom and Love) and reveals the story embedded there.
The author is Stephen J. Serva Dei, a Professor of Applied Meta-Physics who runs the Applied Meta-Physics Learning Centre at www.servadei.com

There are also over one hundred more lessons available and the website is continually being updated with more. There’s lessons on The Structure of Everything, A Pathway to Freedom; the complete program of ReGeneration, The Gospel of Thomas, and a series of charts explaining the work illustratively.
The extended chart presented at the end of this book shows the parallel teachings of the twenty-seven chapters of the Book of Leviticus, which expands into the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, as well as the twenty-seven stages of ReGeneration patterned into the Vedic/Indic, the Chinese, Japanese, Sufi/Islamic, Aboriginal, African, Indigenous American, Inuit / Circumpolar, Polynesian / Pacific, teachings, and how these are translated into and interpreted in: Public Buildings, Architectural Structures, and Civic Functions. Finally, the modern scientific terms outlining the same ReGenerative process.
The chart also includes the twenty-seven cell salts revealing their part in the ReGeneration, with reference to how these materials function inside the body, and through our technological inventions. Also included is the parallel process embedded into the Gospel of Thomas, the Gnostic text.
When this information is understood, the renewed understanding will mark the beginning of the end to all corruption, hatred, fears, greed and wars. This is not my opinion; it is the revealed purpose of the Torah.
Preface
Continue to read audibly.
In all the teachings I have been intuitively called to write over the years, it has been made clear that reading audibly is an essential part of the ReGenerative process. From our earliest experiences as little children, those teaching us, taught us to read audibly. Then almost immediately after the teacher hears us reach a certain level of reading ability, it is straight to a desk and reading ‘to ourselves’ from that time onwards. This prevents us from imparting the breath of life to the words on the page and raising them from the dead.
From this point onwards the teacher speaks the majority of the time and that is indoctrination, not education. Education is the process of drawing forth from within each individual the Spiritual Essence of life and teaching each child how to shape it wisely and express it with Love.
Wisdom said: “let us make man into our image (wise) and after our likeness (loving)”.
The whole purpose of existence is to evolve into a Wise and Loving Hu-man Be-ing. Morphologically:
Hu – is an ancient Egyptian name-sound associated with the animating principle of Divine Life; the breath of God moving through the person and giving life to mind and body. (Other sources state it is the oldest written name for God).
Man – is Sanskrit for Mind
Be – for something to ‘be’, means ‘it is’.
Ing – is a suffix meaning ‘in activity’.
While not strict etymology, it is valid morphology. Morphology is far older than etymology – people were speaking for immeasurable length of time and coining new words from existing across cultures long before writing was invented. Etymology is important, yet it is not the sole foundation determining the root meaning and composition of words.
A Hu-man Be-ing is an aspect of God’s Mind in Activity. When we understand our True nature and live in alignment with it, we thrive as individuals and have peace and harmony as communities. When we do not understand our true nature and live out of alignment with it, we suffer, are divided, are subject to a multitude of errors, and there is no individual peace, nor social harmony.
The purpose of the Torah is to teach each person how to establish the foundation of their daughter/son of God status.
It does so by describing a process, started in Genesis and continuing through each of the subsequent books. These books we have received embody the necessary Wisdom which teaches us how to awaken pure, unadulterated Love within ourselves. While the human family congratulates itself continually and awards intellectual prowess, it has sidelined its partner, Love. Without Love the Intellect is a devil, it is ‘Satan’.
This is plainly evident in the way the world has been divided and each part/country/’race’, creed and political organisation is set against the other. This is a projection of what is happening within each person. People seek answers to ‘the world’s problems, yet, until they answer the most important question correctly, “Who AM I?” all the other answers they may think they find, lack truth and will be constructed on a foundation of sand. There’s no peace on earth until there is inner peace.
The answer to the question “Who AM I?” is: You are the daughter/the Son of God. This answer is the foundation onto which each individual is to build character. There is no other foundation. That foundation is presented in Genesis, and unveiled in Mysteries of Genesis. If you have not read the Mysteries of Genesis, it is required reading to understand the companion books, and participate in the ReGeneration.
The Book of GENESIS provides the teaching which reveals the foundational elements of our character, it reveals the process of our Spiritual evolution and the attainment of everlasting life. Its stories teach the first stages of the ReGenerative process.
The Mysteries of Genesis I have reproduced here as an APP is widely available in other formats: elsewhere; hard copy, pdf, and probably ePub. The pdf is available through the Truth Unity, website. I reproduce it here, to present it as a part of a five-book series:
Mysteries of Genesis was first published in 1936 by UNITY School of Metaphysics. The version I have reproduced on the site is from the fifteenth printing 1989. It is a seminal book, providing ground-breaking in-depth meta-physical interpretations of the first fifty chapters of the Torah/Pentateuch. It rewards the sincere reader with profound insights and sets the foundation for understanding the rest of the canon of the scriptures.
It does so through thirteen movements:
Spiritual Man
Manifest Man
The Fall of Man
The Reaction to Sense Living
The Initial Step Towards Redemption
The Promise of Salvation
The Fruits of Faith
The Mental Supplants the Physical
Man Develops Spiritual Faculties
The Spiritual Gains Precedence of the Mental
Joseph a Type of the Christ
The I AM and its faculties in the Body
The Blessing of the Faculties
Each movement is a stage of Soul unfoldment. Revealing how the ideal individual whom Elohim-God creates is our Spiritual Self. Our I AM. Then, in the follow up creation story, which many people think conflicts with the first story, Jehovah takes the reins from Elohim.
Rather than being conflicting stories Elohim creates the Ideal Hu-Man on the Spiritual plane, and Jehovah breathes life into that ideal. We are each Jehovah. Yah-Weh. YHWH. The embodiment of the Tetragrammaton. Yah-Weh is an onomatopoeia for breathing:
Yod – Inhale
He – Exhale
Wav (Vav) – Inhale
He – Exhale
We are not Adam, nor are we Eve. They represent aspects of consciousness unfolding on descending planes. Adam is male, the Spiritual/mental/animating principle, and Eve is Soul/female/receptive-expressive principle. Adam is Spirit, Eve is Body, the material side, hence Eve is the “mother of all the living” – simply because nothing lives without Spirit/Breath/Soul indwelling a ‘material’ body.
Our body is specifically designed to be a vehicle for the Spoken Word. We are the embodiment of Absolute Intelligence, which we call ‘God’. We call it God because when we commune with Spirit, and it is real and tangible to our minds and feelings, we are filled with indescribable goodness, beauty, and truth, and realise our true nature.
With every word we speak we draw from the infinite Well of Life. It passes through the individuality to the personal and is expressed. When the personal is shaped by material thinking, the water is muddied. This is a simple analogy teaching how the race has sustained division, dis-ease, suffering, hatred, and every other heinous form of behaviour. By identifying with the personal and all its errors, the individual is buried beneath materialistic thoughts and cut off from awareness of and communion with God within.
The whole teaching of the ‘Bible’, the Helios Biblios, the Books of Light, the Books of Wisdom, the Books of the Sun, is to teach us how to regain conscious connection to I AM and Live drinking consciously of its Spiritual energy each day.
As the Torah, the first five books lay the foundations, the other sixty-one books build on that, the theme of each book providing guidance for the ReGeneration.

This is the story of our Salvation. Embedded in this collection is profound Wisdom which transforms us and awakens us from the sleep of death. As the vehicle for the Word, we are stewards of the earth for our own sakes. To be effective stewards requires Wisdom and Love, Intellect and Emotions, married in consciousness and balanced and expressing the Spirit harmoniously.
The power of death and life is in the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21
When we speak each day, we are charging the atmosphere with energy and the energy is ‘bottled up’ in the letters and the meaning of the words we speak. Once spoken they travel through the body writing their message into it and radiating out into the world colouring the Race Thought Atmosphere.
The atmosphere in turn influences our lives. By reading audibly, we charge the atmosphere with kind, loving, caring, wise words, and the divisive, hateful, degenerate words of the past become diminutive in force until they are dissolved completely.
Our words build our body, every word spoken radiates energy through the body and if we speak ill for any reason we tear the body down. When we speak words of Love, Peace, Compassion, Forgiveness and Unity, we build ourselves up.
Our forebears understood this clearly, and knew that every hu-man be-ing is held responsible for their every word:
“By your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned”.
Matthew 12:37
Justification and condemnation are built into the body as we grow and develop.
The first five Books of the Torah/Pentateuch contain patterns which embody profound mysteries. I ask the reader to bear in mind that ‘mysteries’ are so called because the mind is focussed elsewhere and cannot see what is evident.
The Book of Genesis is the Book of Spiritual Conception; the other four books build on that:
Genesis presents conception/awakening to Spirit / God within.
(Charles S Fillmore)
Exodus presents New Birth. (Stephen J. Serva Dei)
Leviticus presents Growth. (Stephen J. Serva Dei)
Numbers presents Development. (Stephen J. Serva
Dei)
Deuteronomy presents Maturity. (Stephen J. Serva
Dei)
Exodus teaches us the next stages in eight movements:
Movement One: Bondage and the Awakening of the
Liberating Faculty (This excerpt in eleven parts)
Movement Two: Confrontation and the Exposure of the
Selfish Order
Movement Three: Passover, Departure, and Birth Through
Transformation
Movement Four: Wilderness Testing and Functional
Reordering
Movement Five: Sinai, Divine Law, and Covenant
Movement Six: The Revealed Pattern of the
Body-Temple
Movement Seven: Regression and Covenant Renewal
Movement Eight: Construction, Completion, and
Indwelling
The Mysteries of Exodus unfold these Wisdom stories from a meta-physical perspective, revealing the embedded process of ReGeneration that has been lost for two thousand years.
INTRODUCTION
Exodus: The Birth of the Body-Temple
The Helios Biblia, commonly referred to as ‘the Bible’ is the account of the unfolding and ReGeneration of Hu-man Nature. The complete process is veiled and presented as ‘history’ as a record of events that happened long ago.
As such, it describes in its pages, the unfolding of the Spiritual nature of every hu-man being. Its people, places, journeys, conflicts, battles, altars, sanctuaries, and laws reveal movements taking place within consciousness. Its histories describe the gradual awakening of the higher mind; the overcoming of errors and the selfish motives embedded deep within us.
It describes the ordering of the faculties, and the ReGeneration of the whole person. The five books of Moses form one continuous developmental sequence:
Each of the five books illustrates the forward moving progress. Each book establishes the conditions required for the next stages. Genesis reveals the conception and formation of the faculties through which Divine purpose may be expressed. It begins with the creation of Spiritual Man and follows the gradual emergence of ordered consciousness through the patriarchal line. The faculties are conceived, named, tested, corrected, and blessed.
Exodus begins when those faculties have multiplied, yet remain subject to a ruling lower order. The children of Israel are living within Egypt. They are productive, possess strength, and they are capable of building. Yet their life-current is being directed by Pharaoh and used to preserve structures that do not serve their highest good.
This is where Exodus opens. The initiate discovers that these faculties exist, yet they are not free. Life energy is present, yet it is misdirected. The life-current flows, yet it is being used to sustain a selfishness, fear, greed, division and confusion.
Exodus is therefore the book of Spiritual birth (the new birth): the emergence of consciousness from bondage into liberty, from slavery to degenerate behaviour, confusion and misdirection into Freedom via Divine Order, and from external compulsion into the conscious service of the EVER-LIVING.
Mysteries of Genesis and the Metaphysical Reading of Scripture
An important modern contribution to the metaphysical reading of the Bible is Mysteries of Genesis, commonly associated with Charles S. Fillmore, who was the co-founder of Unity with his wife, Myrtle Fillmore. Together they helped establish a Spiritual movement devoted to prayer, inner transformation, and the practical application of Divine principles in everyday life.
Mysteries of Genesis presents Genesis as an inner Spiritual record rather than merely an external history. It has helped and continues to help generations of readers to recognise that the people and events of Scripture correspond to faculties, motives, states of mind, and stages of development within the individual.
This manuscript honours that contribution. I do not reproduce the text of Mysteries of Genesis here. Nor do I make any attempt to imitate it. This rendering carries forward the same broad principle of meta-physical Bible interpretation into the next book of the Torah.
Genesis gives us conception; Exodus gives us birth. The seed-pattern formed in Genesis must now be brought forth into active life.
The Inner Meaning of Egypt
Egypt represents the realm of sense-consciousness when it is treated as the final authority. The senses are not our enemies, they have fallen. The visible world is not evil, nor is the body an obstacle to Spiritual development.
The difficulty arises when the lower mind assumes the throne and claims the right to direct the whole person.
Pharaoh represents this ruling lower sense-consciousness. He uses the growing strength of Israel to build his store-cities. The Spiritual faculties are compelled to labour in the service of selfish motives: fear, pride, appetite, possession, control, and the desire for personal advantage.
The more the faculties multiply, the more threatened Pharaoh becomes. The lower mind senses that its authority cannot continue indefinitely once the higher mind begins to awaken.
Moses and the Revelation of the I AM
Moses represents the awakened law-bearing faculty. He is born under threat, preserved upon the waters, raised within Pharaoh’s own household, and prepared through a long period of withdrawal. His first attempt to oppose injustice is premature. He recognises the error, yet initially responds through force.
Consequently, He flees Egypt, becomes a shepherd (one tending thoughts) and He must learn to guide rather than compel. At the burning bush, Moses encounters the inexhaustible life-current. The bush burns, yet is not consumed. On an individual basis, this symbolises the inner fire of the solar plexus illuminates without destroying the vessel through which it shines.
Here the EVER-LIVING reveals the Divine Name:
I AM THAT I AM.
The I AM is the centre of identity. It is the point of contact between the individual and the EVER-LIVING. It is the awakened recognition that Life is not a product of passing circumstances, inherited limitations, material possessions, social standing, or external approval.
Life proceeds from the Divine Presence within, and Moses returns to Egypt embodying that recognition.
The Exposure of the Selfish Order
Pharaoh does not release Israel immediately. This is essential to the logic of Exodus. A selfish order does not surrender merely because its error has been recognised. It resists correction. It intensifies its demands. It requires bricks (sustaining) without supplying straw (rays of light, structure, reason, hope).
The plagues progressively reveal the consequences of that resistance. They progressively expose the instability of a system governed by selfish motives; they are not random punishments. The waters are corrupted. Disturbing forms multiply. Vitality is weakened. Security is shaken. The harvest is consumed. Darkness covers the land. The generative continuity of the old order is finally brought to an end.
The selfish order cannot sustain life harmoniously because it has no independent life of its own. It survives only by appropriating and misdirecting the life-current that properly belongs to the EVER-LIVING.
Passover and the Divided Waters
Passover consecrates the life-current. The doorway is marked. The household is protected. The people eat in readiness. The former cycle ends, and a new calendar begins. Liberation requires movement. The children of Israel cannot remain in Egypt while merely thinking differently about bondage. They must depart.
The crossing of the sea is the decisive birth passage. The waters divide. Meta-physically, this is the separation of error from truth. A path appears where no path could previously be seen. This matches the parting of the waters in Genesis. The Highest Ideals pass safely through the opened way. The old order attempts to follow while retaining its former motives and methods, yet it cannot enter the new state.
The waters close behind Israel. The transition is complete. This does not happen ‘in a day’, it is a process which takes time. Life’s waters drown error in calamity.
The Wilderness and the Law
New Birth does not produce immediate maturity. After the sea-crossing comes the wilderness. The wilderness is the first field of testing because consciousness must learn how to live without returning to the structures of bondage.
Manna teaches daily receptivity. Manna means “what is it?” – meaning, what it is we need to remain true to the ReGenerative process? Whatever we need is around our communities. Water from the rock reveals the hidden supply within Principle, deep within each of us. Water flowing from the rock is hidden truth becoming visible as one awakens.
Amalek exposes the lingering Race Thought Atmosphere that attempts to draw consciousness back into conflict. Jethro’s counsel introduces intelligent distribution of responsibility, so that the newly liberated life can order itself.
At Sinai, Divine Law is revealed. The Commandments are “the Law of Motives”. They identify the principles required for true freedom. They are the voice of the Higher mind in-structing the lower mind, so that the lower mind can be strengthened illumined and liberated.
Freedom is conscious congruency with Divine Order; it cannot exist without Divine Order. Order is the first Law of the Universe.
The Tabernacle and the Body-Temple
Exodus is a prolonged ReGenerative process. Crossing the Red Sea, or Sea of Reeds is a stage. The events at Sinai/Horeb are also a stage. There are many stages, each stage describes an inner process, like a row of doors in a corridor, one cannot pass through door twenty-seven until they have passed through the first twenty-six.
As one passes through each door, one embodies what is learned. The intellect cannot jump ahead; the whole person must pass through every step. So, Sinai is a high state of consciousness, where the Higher mind reveals to the lower individual initiate, the Laws of Being.
The Book of Exodus can be partitioned into eight movements. Each movement reaches fulfilment only when the Tabernacle is completed and the Glory of the EVER-LIVING fills the dwelling place.
The Tabernacle is the revealed pattern of the Body-Temple. Its altar, Ark, lampstand, laver, coverings, veils, garments, vessels, measurements, and sacred spaces reveal an ordered inner structure. Every part has a function, just as every faculty has a place, and every offering symbolises the process of transformation.
Every lamp sustains inner Light, illumination. The Divine pattern is first revealed to the higher mind. It then speaks to or learns to command the lower mind. The faculties trained through sincere and willing offering, disciplined craftsmanship, and careful completion.
The golden calf interrupts this process. It reveals the tendency to reduce the invisible EVER-LIVING to a visible object that the senses seek to possess and control. The same gold that should be consecrated in the sanctuary is shaped into an idol.
The difference lies in motive. Degenerate motives lead to degenerate behaviour. Degenerate behaviour causes regression, which each is to identify within themselves, then expose its roots and correct it.
This is how we renew the covenant, build the sanctuary, and the cloud of the Spirit descends, filling the Tabernacle of consciousness with its glory.
The Purpose of This Manuscript
Mysteries of Exodus follows the inner logic of the complete book through eight movements:
These movements reveal one continuous ReGenerative process, where we decipher ancient symbols, and correlate them to aspects of our own nature, and thereby recognise Exodus as a Living Document teaching us Spiritual Evolution.
When we ask the right questions, we get answers that guide our ReGenerative process:
Where is the life-current still being used to preserve structures deriving from selfish motives?
Where is the higher mind beginning to awaken?
Where must error be separated from truth?
Where is a daily dependence upon Divine supply still being learned?
Where must motive become congruent with Divine Law?
Where is the Body-Temple being consciously prepared as a dwelling place for the EVER-LIVING?
On the surface, Exodus is the story of liberation applicable to each of us. More deeply, it is the story of our New Birth. The true Exodus is completed when we have gathered our faculties, our twelve powers, and brought them into Divine Order, having prepared the sanctuary, and the Glory of the EVER-LIVING fills the completed dwelling place: our Body-Temple.

One: Part One
Bondage and the Awakening of the Liberating Faculty
Exodus 1:1–14
Scripture Passage:
Exodus 1:1–14
1 Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into
Egypt (every man and his household came with Jacob):
2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
5 And all the Souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy
Souls: and Joseph was in Egypt already.
6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly,
and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with
them.
8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.
9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of
Israel are more and mightier than we:
10 come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come
to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they also join themselves
unto our enemies, and fight against us, and get them up out of the
land.
11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with
their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and
Raamses.
12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the
more they spread abroad. And they were grieved because of the children
of Israel.
13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with
rigor:
14 and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in
brick, and in all manner of service in the field, all their service,
wherein they made them serve with rigor.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Genesis closes with Joseph in Egypt. Joseph represents the Truth idea carried down into the deeper levels of consciousness. Through Joseph, the whole household of Jacob receives nourishment during a time of famine. The faculties find protection while the seed-pattern continues to develop.
Exodus opens after Joseph and his generation have passed from the scene. The inner Truth that once consciously directed the life of the household no longer governs the land. Yet the children of Israel continue to multiply. The Higher Ideals remain active beneath the surface, even when the lower mind has lost sight of their Spiritual purpose.
The death and burial of a Patriarch symbolises that the teaching they embodied has become a permanent aspect of our nature and their offspring, or appointed ones, embody that principle for the next stage of the ReGeneration.
Egypt (Mitzraim (מִצְרַיִם) is the Hebrew word for Egypt, and its grammatical structure directly embodies duality- i.e. meta-physically a lower and higher mind) represents the realm of sense-consciousness and the deeper subjective mind. It is the place where ideas descend into the Body and take form. When Divine Order directs this process, the whole person grows in strength and harmony. When selfish motives take control, the life-current serves fear, greed, possession, and the urge to dominate. These lead to degeneration.
A new Pharaoh now rules Egypt. He knows nothing of Joseph. He does not remember the Truth idea that once preserved the land. He sees only a growing people whose strength threatens his authority.
The opening verses name the sons of Israel who entered Egypt with Jacob. Each represents an aspect of a developing faculty. The Patriarch Jacob represents the developing I AM identity through which the faculties receive their original inspiration. His twelve sons represent the organised faculties of mind. They enter Egypt because the whole person must eventually bring each faculty into the deeper levels of the body-consciousness.
Seventy Souls enter Egypt. Numerically, seven is the number of perfection. Each person is perfect in their Spiritual blueprint. This is a dynamic perfection expressed in harmony. Life is to be lived peacefully and joyfully. The New Birth opens the way into creating order in the Promised Land: our body.
Joseph already lives in Egypt. The Truth idea has gone before the faculties and prepared a place for them. Joseph preserves life during famine because Spiritual understanding knows how to conserve and direct substance when the outer world appears barren. This is our search for Truth into the deeper and darker aspects of life.
Then Joseph dies. The principle Joseph represented continues to exist, yet the people lose their conscious connection with it. The worries of the world of materiality crowd out Truth. Later generations inherit the benefits of Truth without retaining the understanding that created those benefits.
This happens within every Hu-man Be-ing. A moment of insight may bring order, strength, or healing. When the person does not cultivate, live, and embody the principle, the lower mind gradually takes control again. The outer result remains for a time, while the inner understanding fades.
A new king arises over Egypt. Pharaoh represents the force that rules the body under a material regime. He governs the solar plexus and the subconscious realm when the lower mind claims the throne. His authority rests upon sense-consciousness, fear, and the desire to preserve personal control.
This Pharaoh does not know Joseph. The ruling lower mind does not know Truth. When a person is immersed in the Race Thought Atmosphere, they grow up without being able to see, understand, or know themselves and their faculties as they truly are. These faculties are the servants of Divine purpose. The personality formed in materiality is a cloak over the individuality, and it commandeers the mental and bodily forces to exploit them and uphold the values of a materialistic system.
The children of Israel represent our Highest Ideals. They continue to multiply because the Divine seed within the Hu-man Be-ing continues to grow and evolve. This is life’s purpose, to embody the Divine. The more a person recognises their True nature as a daughter or son of God, the more they seek to understand themselves.
Consequently, the continued growth of the lower mind and the personality fears this increase. It senses that its rule will weaken as the Higher Ideals grow stronger.
Pharaoh therefore appoints taskmasters. The taskmasters represent the established thoughts growing in the garden of consciousness, seeded there as we were growing up. These reproduce the recurring demands, fears, appetites, pressures, and habits that burden the faculties.
Each of these demands keeps the mind occupied with endless labour, preoccupied with material expression, material values, and material activities. The life energy required to create avenues of expression for our Highest Ideals is diverted into maintaining the lower order.
The Israelites build store-cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. Pithom means ‘a narrow place’ or ‘narrow pass’. It represents substance conserved under conditions of sorrow and bondage. The life-current remains active, yet selfish motives hem it in on every side. The Israelites building storehouses refers to the biological functioning of the body and energy production.
Raamses means ‘son of Ra’, ‘son of the sun’, or ‘sun’s emanation’. The name represents a storehouse of substance within the subconscious realm. Pharaoh claims that stored power for his own purposes. The ruling personality appropriates the life-current and uses it to maintain the lower order.
This is habit, ad-diction, impulses, OCD, and striving for control of others, for material wealth, etc. while placing its value higher than its source: Spirit. Everything made manifest is the fruit of the Spirit. Degenerate ideas exalting materiality are the product of the Race Thought Atmosphere. They are sin because they are drawn from the world, not from the source within.
A ‘sinner’ is one who establishes their centre and motives on material values, and therefore misses the mark, while the ‘perfect’ are those who draw inspiration directly from the source and do not adulterate it with material thinking and ideas, fears, greed, hatred and violence, and the desire to dominate, etc.
We may possess great vitality, intelligence, skill, and creative power while remaining inwardly enslaved. One can build, earn, organise, produce, and achieve, yet direct all that energy into structures created by fear, greed, insecurity, and personal ambition. The life-current flows, though it serves the wrong master. One can serve God or mammon.
The affliction does not destroy Israel. The more Pharaoh burdens the children of Israel, the more they multiply. The Higher Ideals gather strength beneath the pressure. The lower mind’s structures and systems cannot suppress them indefinitely, when an individual is truly determined, nothing can stop them.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that the Higher Ideals may be alive and multiplying within consciousness while still labouring under sense rule.
The first sign of New Birth is disturbing; it is the growing awareness that we have misdirected life energy. The faculties, strength, and substance are all present. Yet these have been forced to build storehouses for Pharaoh: the ruling thought of the lower mind.
Through introspection the initiate learns to recognise the taskmasters within: recurring fears, appetites, anxieties, ambitions, habits, inherited beliefs, and material pressures that consume the life-current, while promising safety, status, control, or fulfilment.
This lesson also teaches that bondage cannot destroy the Divine seed. Life’s pressures expose the degenerate condition, yet they also reveal the strength of the Higher Ideals. Every hardship we have has the specific purpose of causing us to go deeper within ourselves and draw on the inspiration to overcome it.
The more sincerely the initiate observes the inner condition, the more clearly the contrast appears between the life God intends and the life constructed by materialistic thinking and systems.
An initiate’s work begins when she/he sees where the faculties have been serving the wrong master.
This establishes the first principle of Exodus: when selfish motives rule the lower mind, the faculties labour to preserve structures that restrict their own freedom. Yet the Divine life-current continues to multiply within them, preparing the way for New Birth.

Shiphrah and Puah Preserve the Male Principle
Exodus 1:15–22
Scripture Passage
Exodus 1:15–22
15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of whom
the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16 and he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women,
and see them upon the birth-stool; if it be a son, then ye shall kill
him; but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt
commanded them, but saved the men-children alive.
18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them,
Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men-children
alive?
19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not
as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the
midwife come unto them.
20 And God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and
waxed very mighty.
21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made
them households.
22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye
shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save
alive.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Pharaoh has failed to suppress the children of Israel through hard labour. The more he burdens them, the more they multiply. The Higher Ideals continue to gather strength beneath the surface of consciousness. Once we consciously start the process of ReGeneration, God’s purpose for each of us cannot be thwarted.
The lower mind now changes its method. It turns from oppression to direct interference with birth. It seeks to destroy every emerging Spiritual ideal and power that could challenge its authority and establish a new order within the body-consciousness.
Pharaoh speaks to the Hebrew midwives. A midwife assists the process of birth. Within consciousness, the midwife represents the Spiritual phase of the Soul that receives, protects, and nurtures new ideas as they enter conscious awareness.
The two midwives are Shiphrah and Puah. Shiphrah means ‘polished’, ‘bright’, ‘shining’, ‘brilliant’, ‘splendid’, ‘beautiful’, ‘pleasing’, and ‘trumpet-clear’. The name refers to the inner faculty that recognises the beauty and clarity of a Divine idea as it begins to take form.
Puah means ‘shining’, ‘brightness’, ‘giving Light’, ‘splendour’, and ‘beauty’. The name refers to the Spiritual faculty that protects the new idea and radiates its Light throughout consciousness.
The names reveal the quality of the birth taking place. The Higher mind begins to bring forth new thoughts formed in Truth. These ideas carry Light, beauty, clarity, and Spiritual strength. They arise from the individuality; the I AM identity rooted in God within.
Pharaoh commands the midwives to kill every son and preserve every daughter. The male principle refers to the positive, directing, initiating power of mind. It gives an idea direction and brings it into active expression. The female principle refers to the receptive, nurturing power of mind through which an idea receives substance and grows.
Both principles belong to Divine Order. Pharaoh seeks to destroy the directing principle at birth. The lower mind’s personality can tolerate receptivity while it controls the direction. It can use feeling, imagination, desire, and substance for its own ends when the Higher mind does not guide them.
This pattern appears throughout the Race Thought Atmosphere. Material systems often encourage appetite, consumption, emotional reaction, distraction, and endless activity. At the same time, they suppress the clear Spiritual direction required to bring the faculties into Divine Order.
A new Truth idea threatens the established order. When a person begins to recognise their Divine origin, the thought carries consequences. They begin to examine their motives, question habits, values, fears, and beliefs that once passed without scrutiny. These were accepted as, “I am who I am and no one can change me”.
So, the flow of Spirit through consciousness makes the lower mind sense the coming change. It attempts to deny the thought before the thought grows strong enough to reshape the character. It whispers that Spiritual ideas are impractical, unrealistic, inconvenient, or impossible to live. It says that “no one is perfect”.
Shiphrah and Puah refuse Pharaoh’s command. They fear God. In the original Hebrew, yirah (fear) is deeply connected to sight, perception, and reverence. Their reverence for Divine Order carries greater authority than the demands of the lower personality. They preserve the men-children because each new Spiritual idea contains the seed of future action. Fear of God refers to reverence.
The personality’s command: Pharaoh (the persona ruling the lower mind) ordered the midwives to kill the Hebrew baby boys. The persona uses terror, decreeing that survival depends on serving greed, control, and separation.
The Midwives’ Vision: The midwives possessed the “fearful wisdom” to see past the mask of Pharaoh. They recognized that the true animating principle of life belongs to God alone. Not to the personality and its corrupt nature.
Their “fear” was not of ‘punishment’, rather it represents a profound reverence for the sanctity of Life. They chose to align with the higher Divine Order rather than obey the corrupted, fear-based dictates of the lower sense-consciousness
Reverence is a deeply profound intuitive gnosis of, and respect for, the immutable Law which governs all our lives. It describes the deep respect that arises when a person recognises the Law operating within life. The Divine Law is alive, even before it has been grasped and understood by the intellect. The reality is, we cannot deceive the Law of Motives. Every motive produces its own fruit in thought, feeling, action, and body-consciousness.
Our body is, as we will visit repeatedly, our Book of Life.
The Hebrew women give birth before the midwives arrive. They are lively. The Higher Ideals carry their own vitality because they draw life directly from Spirit. One sees what needs to be done, and without hesitation, they do it. Truth does not depend upon the permission of the lower mind before it begins to express. Truth is its own authority; an emanation of God.
The Hebrew Way (The Spirit): The Higher Ideals are “lively” (chayot in Hebrew, meaning living, vigorous, or vital). Because they draw life directly from the one Divine EGO, the EVER-LIVING, they are self-sustaining, self-quickening, and structurally complete the moment they are conceived.
This reveals a profound principle: the Christ seed lives within every person. The lower personality may delay its growth, divert its energy, or cloak it with layers of material thinking and personal ambition. Yet the seed retains its original pattern and continues to press toward expression.
When a higher truth flashes into human consciousness, it bypasses the analytical, hesitant machinery of the personality.
God deals well with the midwives and gives them households. A household represents an established centre of consciousness. When we protect new Spiritual ideas and give them room to grow, they begin to organise the inner life. They gather related thoughts around them and create stable avenues of expression.
A single Truth idea can become a household. Cultivated daily, it influences feeling, speech, behaviour, relationships, and bodily function. It forms a living centre within the garden of consciousness.
When you act from the wisdom of the higher mind, your inner faculties (“the people”) multiply and grow “very mighty.” Your thoughts and life-forces are no longer scattered or destroyed by the persona; they are given a permanent, harmonious structure to dwell in.
Pharaoh now commands all his people to cast every son into the river. The lower order escalates its effort. The more we work inwardly to understand ourselves the more aware we become of how destructive the lower mind’s habits are. We now see clearly its attempts to drown each new directing idea in the stream of material thinking before it can mature. Worry, distraction, pressure, appetite, ambition, and fear flood the mind and carry the new thought away.
Yet the river represents an aspect of life’s currents. The same waters that threaten the emerging faculty will carry and preserve Moses. Divine Order works through the very field that the lower mind attempts to control. Everything works for the good of those who love God.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that the lower mind’s structures, its inheritances, traditions, etc. commandeer the available life energy and use it, therefore burdening the Higher Ideals, and depriving them of the freedom of expression which enables them to enjoy the fruits of their own labour. So, the lower seeks to prevent the higher from coming into the conscious mind.
This lesson reveals the importance of protecting new Spiritual ideas at the moment of birth. A Divine idea often appears small, delicate, and easily overwhelmed by the established order. The lower personality may dismiss it, ridicule it, postpone it, or drown it in distraction before it gains strength.
The initiate learns to recognise Shiphrah and Puah within consciousness: the bright, clear, protective faculties of the Soul that perceive the beauty of a new Truth idea and preserve its life. These faculties honour Divine Order more than the commands of fear, habit, appetite, or social pressure.
What is required is for the initiate to preserve the constructive Spiritual directing power of mind. Without Spiritual direction, feeling and substance can be captured by the lower mind and used to maintain the old order. With direction, the faculties begin to gather around Truth and prepare for liberation.
The initiate also learns that reverence is protective. Reverence gives the Soul the faith, understanding, power and strength to disobey Pharaoh. It places the Law of God above the demands of the lower personality.
This establishes the second principle of Exodus: the lower mind attempts to destroy each new Spiritual idea before it gains the strength to direct the faculties. Yet the Soul recognises the Light within the idea, protects it, and prepares the way for the law-bearing faculty to arise.
Movement One: Part Three
Moses Is Drawn Out of the Water
Exodus 2:1–10
Scripture Passage
Exodus 2:1–10
1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a
daughter of Levi.
2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he
was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of
bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the
child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to
him.
5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river; and her
maidens walked along by the river-side; and she saw the ark among the
flags, and sent her handmaid to fetch it.
6 And she opened it, and saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And
she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’
children.
7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call thee a
nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maiden went and called
the child’s mother.
9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse
it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child,
and nursed it.
10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and
he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and said, Because I
drew him out of the water.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Pharaoh commands his people to cast every newborn son into the river. He seeks to drown the directing principle before it gains sufficient strength to challenge the lower order. Yet the river carries life’s currents. The same waters intended to destroy the emerging faculty will carry and preserve Moses. Divine Order silently and deeply works through the very field the lower mind attempts to control.
A man and woman of the house of Levi now bring forth a son. Later verses identify them as Amram and Jochebed. Their names reveal the qualities required to bring the law-bearing faculty into conscious awareness.
Levi means ‘joining’ or ‘uniting’ and represents love. Levi is the priestly tribe and the faculty that connects the forces of consciousness with whatever we centre our love upon. Amram means kindred of the lofty One, exalted people, or high people. Amram represents a high conception of our oneness with God and the recognition that our true thoughts emanate from the one Mind.
Jochebed means ‘whose glory is Jehovah’, ‘Jah is honour’, ‘whom Jehovah multiplies’, and ‘Jah makes great’. Jochebed represents the Soul honouring the I AM by expressing the Love and Truth of Spirit.
The law-bearing faculty is born through this union. Love joins itself to a high conception of oneness with God. The Soul honours the EVER-LIVING. A new directing idea enters consciousness. The person begins to see the action of the Divine Law behind every event. This is understanding: seeing the action of the Spirit operating behind life’s events.
A man of the house of Levi takes a daughter of Levi as his wife. Levi means ‘joining or uniting’. The name represents love, the force that gathers and connects the faculties. We connect our forces with whatever we centre our love upon.
When we centre our love upon material values, the lower mind gathers the faculties around fear, appetite, possession, and personal ambition; the divisive and degenerate formative thoughts. When we centre our love upon God within, the faculties begin to gather around Truth. Love opens an avenue through which the Higher mind can speak to the lower mind and reorder the whole person.
The parents of Moses are Amram and Jochebed. Amram means ‘kindred of the lofty One’, ‘exalted people’, or ‘high people’. The name represents a high conception of oneness with God. It recognises our true thoughts as emanations from the ideas of the one Mind.
Jochebed means ‘whose glory is Jehovah’, ‘Jah is honour’, ‘whom Jehovah multiplies’, and ‘Jah makes great’. Jochebed represents the religious Soul honouring and glorifying the I AM by expressing the Love and Truth of Spirit. When we exalt God within our thoughts, the Higher mind strengthens and enriches consciousness.
Jochebed conceives and bears a goodly child. The new thought carries beauty because it derives from the Divine blueprint. It enters consciousness with an inner authority that the lower mind cannot manufacture. This thought has not yet matured.
Like every newborn idea, it requires protection, nourishment, warmth, and careful attention. A person may receive a clear insight into Truth, then lose sight of it before it grows roots in the garden of consciousness. Each reader will have experienced this countless times.
Jochebed hides the child for three months. Three refers to Spirit, Soul, and Body. The new understanding must begin to take root throughout the whole person before it can enter life’s currents and withstand the pressures of the Race Thought Atmosphere; the worldly materialistic thinking.
An insight cannot remain merely an idea. Its Light is to be received by the intellect, and the intellect must acknowledge the source. Then we nurture it through prayer, reflection, feeling, speech, and action. Each day of cultivation gives the idea greater substance and prepares an avenue for expression.
Each day we acknowledge Spirit, the source of the ideas of Truth in consciousness, the intellect becomes illumined. When Jochebed can no longer hide the child, she places him in an ark of bulrushes. The ark represents love and trust in God. It surrounds the infant thought of Truth and protects it while the currents of life carry it forward.
The bulrushes grow at the water’s edge. They remain flexible while rooted in the mud beneath the river. This suggests the practical wisdom required during the early stages of ReGeneration. We remain rooted in Principle while adapting to changing circumstances.
Jochebed daubs the ark with slime and pitch. She seals the vessel carefully. Love protects the new idea, and Spiritual discipline closes the openings through which fear and doubt might enter. We do this through daily cultivation. By being meticulous with examining our motives and purifying them, and moving toward pure thoughts, words, and deeds.
We continually return to the Truth idea until it becomes familiar. We refuse to expose it carelessly to every opinion, argument, criticism, or passing emotion that flows through the Race Thought Atmosphere. We guard it, and do not allow it to become diluted by materialistic opinions.
Jochebed lays the ark among the flags by the river’s brink. The river represents life’s currents. Pharaoh uses the river in an attempt to drown the emerging male principle. Divine Order uses the same river to preserve the faculty that will lead the Highest Ideals out of bondage.
Everything works for the good of those who love God. The lower mind may create difficult conditions through ignorance and error. Yet the I AM continues to guide us through every condition, drawing wisdom, strength, and greater understanding from the experience. The intellect is becoming illumined.
The sister of Moses stands afar off to watch. Later verses identify her as Miriam. Miriam carries a wide range of meanings: ‘protest’, ‘bitterness’, ‘grief’, ‘sweetness’, ‘fragrance’, ‘elevation’, and ‘exaltation’.
Miriam represents the feminine side of the love faculty as it begins to awaken to its higher possibilities. She watches carefully. The Soul has not yet gained the authority to direct events, yet it recognises the value of the infant thought. Love remains attentive while Divine Order prepares the next step.
Pharaoh’s daughter comes down to bathe at the river. She belongs to Pharaoh’s household, yet compassion stirs within her. The lower mind grew on a foundation of error, and all its rooms carry inherited errors. Still, capacities within the personality can respond to Light and begin to serve a higher purpose.
Pharaoh’s daughter enters the waters. The bathing suggests cleansing. A receptive aspect of the personality enters life’s currents and discovers the protected Truth idea resting among the reeds. The babe weeps. Truth calls attention to itself in an unmistakeable way.
The emerging faculty expresses its need, and compassion answers. Truth carries its own appeal. When the heart opens, the personality begins to recognise and protect what fear once sought to destroy. Miriam now approaches Pharaoh’s daughter.
She offers to find a Hebrew woman who can nurse the child. Divine Order returns Moses to his own mother so that the law-bearing faculty can receive nourishment from the same Spiritual source that brought it forth. Jochebed receives wages for nursing her own son.
The lower order now supplies the means through which the liberating faculty grows. The very household that sought to destroy the male principle begins to support its development. This is one of the great ironies of Exodus.
When the infant Truth idea is surrounded with love and trust, the currents of life carry it into the exact place where it can gain the understanding required for its future work. The child grows and Pharaoh’s daughter names him Moses.
Moses means ‘drawing out’, ‘drawer out’, ‘drawing forth’, ‘extracting from the water’, and ‘water-saved’. Moses’ name and its various meanings reveal his function. Moses represents the developing understanding of Divine Law. He rises from the waters of seeming negation and possibility. He will later draw the children of Israel out of Egypt and lead the Highest Ideals toward the Promised Land.
This drawing forth is the same process as edu-care, from which we get the word Education: drawing forth and developing the Spirit of God concealed deep within every Hu-man Be-ing.
As Moses grows up, the law-bearing faculty develops within Pharaoh’s household. Our lower mind becomes increasingly aware of the Spiritual aspect of Life. Moses learns the structures, habits, values, and methods of the lower order from within. The house that tried to destroy Moses now prepares him for the work of liberation.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that the faculty destined to liberate consciousness may first appear as a small, vulnerable idea requiring protection.
This lesson teaches the importance of guarding a new Spiritual understanding until it has taken root through Spirit, Soul, and Body. A Truth idea received in a moment of illumination can be lost when exposed too soon to fear, argument, criticism, or the pressure of the Race Thought Atmosphere.
The initiate learns to build an ark around the infant idea. This ark is love and trust in God. It gives the idea a protected vessel while life’s currents carry it forward.
The river, which Pharaoh uses as a means of destruction, becomes the means of preservation. This teaches the initiate that Divine Order can work through the very conditions the lower mind uses to threaten growth. What appears to endanger the emerging faculty can become the field through which it is carried toward its appointed place.
The initiate also learns that the lower personality contains aspects that can begin to serve Truth. Pharaoh’s daughter belongs to the old order, yet compassion awakens in her. This means that parts of the personality once formed under sense rule can be touched by Light and brought into service.
The law-bearing faculty must receive nourishment from its true Spiritual source before it can function within the world of Pharaoh. Moses returns to his own mother for nursing, then later grows within Pharaoh’s household. The faculty receives inner nourishment first, then gains practical knowledge of the lower order it will eventually confront.
This establishes the third principle of Exodus: when love, trust, and reverence protect new Spiritual understanding and a higher ideal, the life-current carries it safely through the very conditions that threatened to drown it. The law-bearing faculty rises from the waters and prepares consciousness for liberation.

Premature Zeal and the School of Midian
Exodus 2:11–25
Scripture Passage
Exodus 2:11–25
11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up,
that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he
saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren.
12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was
no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
13 And he went out the second day, and, behold, two men of the Hebrews
were striving together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore
smitest thou thy fellow?
14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? Thinkest
thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and
said, Surely the thing is known.
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses
fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he
sat down by a well.
16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew
water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
17 And the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and
helped them, and watered their flock.
18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye
are come so soon to-day?
19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the
shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the
flock.
20 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that ye
have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.
21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses
Zipporah his daughter.
22 And she bare a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, I
have been a sojourner in a foreign land.
23 And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king
of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage.
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with
Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 And God saw the children of Israel, and God took knowledge of
them.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses grows up within Pharaoh’s household. The law-bearing faculty has received nourishment, education, and protection. It has learned the structures and methods of the lower order from within. Growing up within Pharaoh’s household means we keep our Spiritual development within the bounds of the intellect and material conditions while God nourishes it.
A certain amount of maturity, relating to the world and its processes is necessary to be able to understand clearly. Now Moses goes out to his brethren and looks upon their burdens. The Spiritual faculty can no longer remain enclosed within the palace of intellectual understanding. Like Moses, we outgrow all materialistic values and systems. The true Individual, at the Moses stage of evolution begins to recognise the suffering produced when the lower mind rules the body-consciousness through error, fear, and selfish motives.
Moses sees an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew. The Egyptian represents a thought formed in materiality. The Hebrew represents one of our Highest Ideals. The lower personality has turned the life-current against the very ideals that could lead it into freedom.
Moses responds immediately. He recognises the injustice, yet he has not learned how to overcome error through Divine Law. His first response comes through force. The law-bearing faculty has awakened, though it has not yet gained the inner poise required to lead the whole person. We are not to kill out the ideas that slay our highest ideals, for then we become just like them. True liberation comes through understanding, not force and violence. This use of force is all around us in the world today.
The lower mind thinks ‘good’ versus evil is a reality, it does not yet recognise that good does not fight evil, it enters into it and transforms it. All the symbolism in the Torah is an inward process.
Moses grows up and goes out to his brethren. The law-bearing faculty has begun to awaken. It can no longer ignore the burdens carried by the Higher Ideals. The intellect starts to see how thoughts formed in materiality weigh upon the faculties and divert the life-current into endless labour.
Egyptian thoughts develop from the lower mind and its materialistic values. They express through fear, greed, appetite, ambition, anger, and the desire to control. These thoughts strike at our Highest Ideals and restrict their expression.
The Hebrew represents the Spiritual aspiration seeking freedom. Each of us experiences this conflict. We recognise a Higher Ideal, yet an established thought continues to beat it down. We may understand the Truth intellectually, while habit, fear, and emotional reaction continue to dominate our words and actions.
Moses looks this way and that way. He realises that the law of men is inadequate. He acts as though he can do as he will when no one is looking and seemingly escape responsibility. This is the root cause of all crime in the world today. People think that as long as no one sees, they shall not be held responsible for their actions. This is a grave error.
Moses has not yet centred himself fully in Divine Law. He still looks to material conditions as an authority. This is where the lower mind always looks for guidance, approval, and justice. So, he acts an eye for an eye, kills the Egyptian, and immediately realises he cannot escape responsibility.
After Moses smites the Egyptian and hides him in the sand, He realises His error. His first zeal for overcoming error expresses through force. He attempts to destroy the outer expression without fully understanding the inner cause. The sand represents an unstable foundation of thought where unresolved errors can remain concealed beneath the surface-for a while.
Many begin the ReGenerative process in this way. We recognise a destructive habit or belief and try to suppress it through personal willpower. We condemn ourselves, resist the behaviour, or force an outer change. The root thought remains alive in the garden of consciousness and eventually produces another expression.
The next day Moses sees two Hebrews striving together. The conflict has moved inward. The next day is the next stage of evolution, after one looks for a solution other than violence. The two Hebrews striving together represents the Higher Ideals themselves having not yet formed a harmonious company. Thoughts, feelings, ambitions, and Spiritual aspirations pull in different directions.
Moses asks, “Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?” The law-bearing faculty begins to question inner division. Yet it has not yet earned authority within consciousness. One of the Hebrews immediately challenges him: “Who made thee a prince and a judge over us?”
The question reveals a necessary stage. The intellect may recognise Truth long before the whole person accepts its guidance. We can read, study, pray, and understand profound ideas, yet established thoughts still resist the Higher mind’s direction. They are deeply rooted within us, like a tree is deeply rooted in the earth.
Moses fears that the matter has become known. Fear shows that he has not yet reached inner freedom. The lower mind still influences his actions. He recognises the need for change, though he has not yet learned how to guide the faculties through love, patience, and Divine Order.
Pharaoh seeks to slay Moses. The ruling lower personality senses a threat. It attempts to silence the growing understanding of Divine Law before that understanding gains the strength to reorganise the whole consciousness.
Moses flees into Midian. Midian means ‘strife’ and ‘contention’. It also points to an enlargement or extending of the senses within the mental realm. Some enlightenment has begun, though inner conflict continues. People experience strife and contend with their own lower mind’s thinking and with one another every day.
Moses now enters a period of preparation. He must recognise that the root of all strife and contention exists within himself, and work to overcome it, before he can mature enough to gain the trust of his people and lead the Highest Ideals out of the darkened consciousness represented by Egypt.
The law-bearing faculty needs stillness, patience, humility, and time to mature. Moses sits down by a well, the well represents the inner source of Truth deep within consciousness. This is the ‘Well of Inspired Reason’, from where the Living Waters flow into consciousness, suffusing the body-consciousness with Spirit and revealing to the intellect the very source and essence of life: God within each of us.
The noise of Pharaoh’s household has fallen away; Moses has reached the quiet place where he can begin drawing from the deeper waters of Spirit. In meditation we silence the intellect, calm the emotions, move beyond the influences of the Race Thought Atmosphere, and enter into the deep silence of God. It is here we receive our education.
The priest of Midian has seven daughters. Seven refers to Spiritual completion. The daughters represent receptive faculties within the Soul. They come to the well to draw water and fill the troughs for their father’s flock. The flock represents thoughts.
Thoughts require nourishment. The receptive faculties draw from the well of inspired reason overflowing with Truth so that the thought-life may receive Spiritual substance and grow in harmony. The shepherds drive the daughters away.
These shepherds represent established materialistic thought tendencies that seek to control the inner resources. Old habits, inherited beliefs, and personal ambitions crowd the receptive faculties away from the well and prevent them from drawing freely from Spirit.
Moses stands up and helps them. The Divine Law always supports those who are sincere in their efforts. Now, having taken a draught of water from the well, his knowing has changed. Consequently, with clearer thinking and renewed contact with his Highest Ideals, his approach has also changed.
Previously he used force to destroy the Egyptian. Now he protects the receptive faculties and helps them draw water for the flock. The law-bearing faculty begins to serve. This marks an important step in Moses’ preparation. The Higher mind learns to nourish, guide, and support the faculties, rather than react against error through violence and personal will.
The lower mind is beginning to perceive the value of slowing down, of avoiding impulse, and of learning how to respond to each situation with Truth doing good.
Then the daughters return to Reuel. Reuel means ‘led of God’, ‘shepherded of God’, ‘friendship of God’, and ‘companion of God’. The name represents Divine guidance and care. It also reveals the growing fellowship between God and the Soul.
Reuel asks why his daughters returned so soon. They answer that an Egyptian delivered them from the shepherds and drew water for the flock. They still see Moses as an Egyptian because his outer education and appearance carry the imprint of Pharaoh’s household.
The Spiritual identity has begun to awaken, though the outer personality still reflects its former conditioning. Reuel invites Moses to eat bread. Bread represents Spiritual substance assimilated into consciousness. Moses enters the household of friendship with God and begins receiving the nourishment required for his future work.
Moses becomes content to dwell with Reuel. The law-bearing faculty accepts the period of preparation. It stops trying to force immediate results. It learns patience and allows Divine Order to edu-care and draw forth the deeper understanding concealed within.
This is a period of deep reflection for each individual. Drawing close to God on a daily basis becomes essential, while recognising that each needs to do the work to provide for themselves and their family. Introspection becomes more important than material ambitions.
Reuel gives Zipporah to Moses as his wife. Zipporah means ‘little bird’, ‘sparrow’, ‘chirper’, or ‘twitterer’. Birds represent free, swift thoughts that move between heaven and earth. Zipporah represents a rising freedom of thought, though the thought has not yet reached its full power of expression.
Moses joins himself to these freer thoughts. There are debates surrounding whether Zipporah was African. The Cushite mention appears in Numbers 12:1, where Moses’ siblings, Miriam and Aaron, criticise him for marrying a Cushite woman. Historically, the region of Cush corresponded to Nubia, covering parts of modern-day Sudan and southern Egypt.
Zipporah being dark means that Moses united with the Soul and all its potentialities, in the same way a husband and wife today get married not knowing what the future holds. Through this deep inner connection, fear begins to lose its hold. The intellect starts to rise above the restrictions imposed by material thinking. It begins to hear the voice of Spirit and respond to higher impressions.
Zipporah bears a son named Gershom. Gershom means ‘thrusting out’, ‘driving off’, ‘expulsion’, ‘exile’, and ‘a stranger there’. The name describes the sense of isolation that often follows the first sincere effort to overcome error. One must leave the world and its material values behind and marry the Truth of God within.
Moses has left Egypt, yet he has not entered the Promised Land. He stands between two states of consciousness. The former thoughts and habits no longer satisfy him. The new understanding has not yet matured sufficiently to lead the whole person. This period of transition is like a snake forming a new skin before shedding the old one.
This is an established stage of ReGeneration. A person may feel estranged from old interests, former companions, and established patterns. The new life in the Spirit has begun, though it has not yet taken full form. This period can feel lonely, yet it prepares the ground for a deeper relationship with God within.
Next, the king of Egypt dies, signifying that the dominant ruling thought has begun to lose its power. Yet the structures it created remain active. The children of Israel continue to sigh beneath the burden and cry out to God. Their cry rises from the depths of consciousness. Everyone yearns to be free from everyone who is telling them how to live.
The Highest Ideals have reached the point where they can no longer endure enslavement. They know their source in God, and they seek liberation with sincerity and urgency. This inner cry opens the way for Divine intervention.
“I come from God, and now am here.” — Jesus. John 8:42
God hears their groaning and remembers the covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Abraham represents faith in the one God. Isaac represents joy, laughter, and the delight that follows the recognition of Divine promise. Jacob represents the developing I AM identity through which the faculties begin to organise.
Whatever else happens, God’s promise stands. The Divine Law cannot be broken; those who oppose it are themselves broken. This is because the covenant remains alive within us. Faith, joy, and the mind’s awakening to I AM identity continue to work beneath the surface, even while the lower mind appears to rule. The EVER-LIVING sees the Higher Ideals, hears their cry, and knows their condition.
Sincerity throughout the ReGenerative process is required and bears much fruit. The law-bearing faculty has entered its school of preparation. Moses must now deepen his understanding, tend the flock of thoughts, and learn to recognise the Presence of the EVER-LIVING within the ordinary movements of life.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that the first awakening of Spiritual zeal often attempts to correct error by force.
Moses sees the oppression clearly, yet his first response comes from reaction. He recognises injustice, yet he has not fully entered the poise of Divine Law. This teaches the initiate that seeing an error and knowing how to correct it are different stages of the ReGenerative process.
The initiate learns that personal will cannot liberate the faculties. Suppression, condemnation, and force may hide an error for a time, yet they do not reach the root. The Egyptian buried in the sand represents an unresolved material thought concealed in an unstable foundation.
This lesson also teaches that inner division must be healed before true leadership can arise. Moses sees two Hebrews striving together. The Highest Ideals have multiplied, yet they are not yet united. The law-bearing faculty must gain the trust of the inner faculties through patience, service, and demonstration.
Midian becomes the school of preparation. Strife and contention become the field where the initiate learns discernment. The well represents the inner source of inspired reason. The flock represents thoughts. The daughters of Reuel represent receptive faculties that draw from the Living Waters and nourish the thought-life.
The initiate learns to move from reaction to service. Moses first strikes the Egyptian. Later he protects the daughters and waters the flock. This is a vital transition. The Higher mind does not merely oppose error; it nourishes the faculties and helps them draw from Spirit.
The initiate also learns to accept the period between states. Moses is no longer at home in Egypt, yet he has not entered the Promised Land. This interval may feel lonely, yet it prepares the Soul for deeper friendship with God.
This establishes the fourth principle of Exodus: the first awakening of Spiritual zeal may try to overcome error through force. Divine Order leads the law-bearing faculty into a period of preparation, where strife gives way to patience, deeper understanding, and friendship with God.
Movement One: Part Five
The Burning Bush and Holy Ground
Exodus 3:1–6
Scripture Passage
Exodus 3:1–6
1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law,
the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the back of the
wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto Horeb.
2 And the angel of the EVER-LIVING appeared unto him in a flame of fire
out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned
with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3 And Moses said, I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why
the bush is not burnt.
4 And when the EVER-LIVING saw that he turned aside to see, God called
unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he
said, Here am I.
5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy
feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was
afraid to look upon God.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has entered the school of Midian. He has learned to tend the flock of thoughts, draw from the Well of Inspired Reason, and listen within the silence. The law-bearing faculty has matured through reflection, service, and daily communion with God.
Now Moses leads the flock to the back of the wilderness and comes to Horeb, the mountain of God (Mount Horeb is synonymous with Mount Sinai). Horeb means solitude. It represents the high place in consciousness where the noise of the world falls away and the intellect becomes still enough to receive the Light and Power of the Higher mind.
There, in the silence, the angel of the EVER-LIVING appears in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. The bush burns, yet the fire does not consume it. Moses turns aside to see this great sight. The moment he gives his full attention to the Divine Presence; God calls him by name.
Moses keeps the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. Being a priest of Midian, means Jethro has attained a certain level of control and authority over contentious issues. Moses being given control over the flock symbolises that by aligning with the Divine Law, we gain control over our thoughts and emotions. Moses has learned to shepherd them. He no longer allows every thought to wander wherever impulse, fear, or the Race Thought Atmosphere lead it. He watches the flock carefully.
Every thought contributes to the formation of character. Every emotion moves through the body-consciousness and influences its functioning. The ReGenerative process requires daily, consistent, persistent, focussed attention to the inner life. Degenerate thoughts arise, are recognised, overcome and replaced with Spiritually worthwhile thoughts.
Jethro means ‘his abundance’, ‘his superiority’, ‘his pre-eminence’, and ‘his excellence’. His name also refers to cords, nerves, and tendons. The name reveals the inner abundance of Spirit and its expression through the nervous system. As the intellect becomes illumined, and cojoined to the emotional intelligence, the whole body receives a more orderly flow of life energy.
The Promised Land, our Body, is our Book of Life. Spirit is writing our body and we colour the ink with our thoughts, motives, words, and deeds.
Jethro is the priest of Midian. Midian here means judgment. Earlier, Moses experienced Midian as strife and contention. Through sincere reflection, strife begins to give way to discernment and good judgment. This means the individual is beginning to recognise the Divine Law at work in and through them, shaping character, determining health, and shaping events so we learn the best lessons in the best way.
Through this realisation, the lower mind learns to pause and begins to examine each motive before acting. It learns to distinguish between reaction and response, between material thinking and the quiet direction of the Higher mind.
Moses leads the flock to the back of the wilderness. The wilderness represents the inner field where the familiar structures of material thinking have fallen away. The back of the wilderness refers to the deeper region of consciousness beyond surface thought and emotional noise. To an individual awakening Soul, the materialistic world is a wilderness.
In meditation, we lead the flock inward. We still the intellect, calm the emotions, and move beyond the pressures of the Race Thought Atmosphere. There we enter the deep silence of God and receive our true education.
Moses comes to Horeb, the mountain of God. Horeb means solitude. It represents a high Spiritual realisation and the silence within. The mountain points to an exalted state of consciousness where the intellect begins to recognise the Presence of God within. The Presence of God is felt. It becomes real and tangible to the mind and feelings. God becomes recognised as the very life of each of us.
We attain this state through silence, through calm. We cultivate the silence daily, returning to the inner place again and again. Gradually, the lower mind grows quiet enough to hear what Spirit has always been saying.
The angel of the EVER-LIVING appears in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. The angel represents the presiding intelligence present within every life function. The flame represents the Light of intuition, the inner illumination arising from the regions of the solar plexus and the heart. This is a real, tangible, and indescribable feeling. The flame of Life burns and vitalises; it does not consume as do the fires of degenerate thinking.
No words have yet been coined to describe the molten golden fyre of Love we become aware of when we climb the mountain of clarified perception and come face to face with God.
The bush is symbolic of the nervous system with its roots in the solar plexus, our very own inner Life generator. Once we become aware of this inner fyre, we navigate life by its Light. It is God as a lighthouse radiating over dark and stormy seas of materialism.
The universal life energy flows through the nervous system like electricity through a wire. The bush burns with Light, yet the fire does not consume it. This reveals a profound principle. Mental agitation depletes the nervous system. Worry, fear, anger, emotional reaction, and compulsive thinking exhaust the body’s resources, while Spiritual illumination renews substance.
The Light of Spirit flows through the body-consciousness without consuming it. Divine fire purifies, strengthens, and restores. Moses sees the bush burning and turns aside. The Presence has always been there. Moses becomes aware of it because he gives it his attention. This is the meaning of contemplation.
We turn aside from the endless movement of material thought. We slow down, stop, observe, and listen. As we receive, the intellect realises its error and acknowledges the source of the Light shining on it, which existed before the intellect did. This is the Light of the EVER-LIVING.
When the EVER-LIVING sees Moses turn aside, He calls him by name: “Moses, Moses.” The repetition carries emphasis and urgency. When we receive the call, it is personal, from deep within. No one else knows. Our law-bearing faculty has reached a point where it can hear, recognise, and respond consciously to the Divine call. Understanding has matured through experience, reflection, and service.
Moses answers, “Here am I.” This is the response of the awakening intellect. It no longer hides behind distraction, fear, or excuse. It becomes present, attentive, and receptive to the Higher mind.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses to remove his shoes. Shoes protect the feet while we walk upon the earth. Meta-physically, they represent the material concepts that cling to our understanding as we move through the world of appearances. They are composed of the vocabulary we use, the value systems, and the material buffers we think we need to move through life.
To remove the shoes means to remove self-limiting material concepts from the intellect. We work to identify inherited self-limiting beliefs, fixed opinions, fears, prejudices, and assumptions. We stop interpreting life solely through the evidence of the senses. At this stage, the intellect is becoming more receptive to Truth.
The EVER-LIVING says, “The place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” We all stand on Holy Ground. God lives at the centre of every Hu-man Be-ing. The Divine Presence fills the whole of life, even when the intellect has not yet learned to recognise it. The ground refers to the foundation of consciousness.
When we turn within sincerely and remove material concepts from the understanding, we begin to recognise the sacred nature of the Body-Temple and the Divine Life flowing through it.
The mind inquires as to the source of this Superior Life. God identifies Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Abraham represents faith in the one God. Isaac represents joy, laughter, and the delight that arises when faith begins to bear fruit. Jacob represents the developing I AM identity through which the faculties gather, organise, and prepare for conscious expression.
The EVER-LIVING draws these stages together. Faith leads to joy. Joy strengthens our connection to our I AM identity. Our awakened intellect receives the I AM and begins to recognise the Divine Law governing every aspect of life.
Moses hides his face. The intellect senses the magnitude of the Presence it has encountered. It cannot grasp the whole of God in a single moment. Moses, being inner, is the abstract mind. Later we will be introduced to Moses’ brother Aaron, who represents the intellect in fuller expression, though not yet fully illumined.
When we are sincere, seeking God, and encounter the flame, reverence arises naturally. The intellect bows before the source of its own Light. It recognises that wisdom does not originate in the personality. Wisdom flows from the EVER-LIVING within.
Yet we each know our own history, and the thinking associated with it is still very much alive and a driving force in our lives. We see the flame, we perceive it, it is within us, yet we do not fully understand it, especially because of the indescribable glory we are given a foretaste of.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that she/he must train her/his understanding and application of the Law in silence before she/he can be safe in the World / i.e. return to Egypt. The flock represents thoughts and emotions. Moses tending the flock teaches the initiate to shepherd the inner life.
Thoughts cannot be allowed to wander under the influence of impulse, fear, appetite, old habit, or the Race Thought Atmosphere. Each thought carries formative power and contributes to the condition of the body-consciousness. The initiate is learning Self-control.
Each initiate also learns that strife, when sincerely examined, becomes judgment. Midian first appears as contention, yet through reflection it becomes discernment. This is how the ReGenerative process transforms the field of conflict into a field of instruction.
What the initiate also learns is the value of Horeb, the mountain of solitude. The Divine call comes when the intellect turns aside from the noise of material thought and gives full attention to the Light within. The Presence has always been there. Recognition begins when attention becomes steady.
The burning bush teaches that Spiritual fire renews rather than consumes. The fires of worry, anger, fear, and compulsive thinking exhaust the nervous system. The fire of Spirit purifies, strengthens, illumines, and restores.
The removal of the shoes teaches the initiate to lay aside material concepts before approaching Holy Ground. Old labels, fixed opinions, inherited fears, and sense-based interpretations cannot govern the intellect when it stands before the EVER-LIVING. This lesson also teaches that our body is Holy Ground. The Promised Land is already present as the Body-Temple, waiting to be recognised, cleansed, ordered, and filled with the Glory of the EVER-LIVING.
This establishes the fifth principle of Exodus: when we lead the flock of thoughts into the inner solitude, calm the emotions, and turn our full attention toward the Light within, the intellect begins to recognise the Presence of the EVER-LIVING. We remove material concepts from our understanding and discover that we stand upon Holy Ground. The Holy Ground is our Body, our Book of Life, the Promised Land.

The Cry of the People and the Commission of Moses
Exodus 3:7–12
Scripture Passage
Exodus 3:7–12
7 And the EVER-LIVING said, I have surely seen the affliction of
my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their
taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
8 and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians,
and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto
a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and
the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the
Jebusite.
9 And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me:
moreover I have seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress
them.
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou
mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and
that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be the
token unto thee, that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the
people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has seen the Light of the EVER-LIVING and turned aside from the endless distractions of material thought. He has removed the shoes of self-limiting concepts and stands on Holy Ground. The awakening intellect now receives a deeper understanding of the work before it.
The EVER-LIVING has heard the cry of the children of Israel. Their suffering has reached a point where it can no longer remain hidden beneath daily routines, material pressures, and inherited habits. The Highest Ideals within consciousness seek freedom.
God, I AM, now sends Moses back into Egypt. The law-bearing faculty must return to the lower mind and begin the process of liberation. The intellect has received Light in the solitude of Horeb. Now it must carry that Light into the whole body-consciousness.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses that He has seen the affliction of His people in Egypt. God sees. God hears. God knows. Our I AM sees, hears, and knows. We do not breathe; God is breathing through us. God’s chosen people are the Highest Ideals placed within each of us, which we are to bring forth and multiply in the world.
Suffering is the result of previous transgressions of the Law, deep within, we do know this, and when we acknowledge it, it is our duty and purpose to seek to overcome it. We cannot suppress the voice of conscience of the EVER-LIVING within us indefinitely.
The cry of the Highest Ideals rises through the whole body-consciousness. It rises through every thought, emotion, habit, and bodily condition shaped by material values and selfish motives. Everyone recognises the innate joy of living, yet struggles with materiality, division, hatred, and violence.
These were all seeded into the Race Thought Atmosphere aeons ago and have been transferred through culture and tradition for millennia. To liberate ourselves takes tremendous effort, both to overcome our own personal burdens and erroneous material standards, and consequently become an example for others to follow.
Leadership is all about demonstration. Without the ability to demonstrate, a leader is merely a figurehead; “leading like a dog”, as the saying goes. A dog runs ahead, then looks back to discern which way its carer is going, and then adjusts. This sequence of events is what we are to completely overcome.
Egypt represents the subconscious realm under the rule of sense-consciousness, projected into the world as the darkness of materiality. In this state the lower mind directs the life-current into habits, impulses, anxieties, ambitions, and reactions formed within the Race Thought Atmosphere. The person grows tired of endless labour and begins to yearn for freedom.
The EVER-LIVING hears the cry by reason of the taskmasters. The I AM sees the futility in working for material gain while those building it are constantly deprived of more and more resources needed to complete the construction.
The taskmasters represent the recurring thoughts that keep the faculties labouring under pressure. They demand attention, energy, time, and substance. Fear paralyses thought. Worry demands more energy. Appetite demands more substance and never finds satisfaction. Material ambition demands more time. These and many more consume the energies required for more worthwhile activities.
The lower order continually consumes the life-current while giving little peace in return. God says, “I know their sorrows.” Sorrows are unfulfilled promises. Material living promises peace and brings division through ownership. It promises riches and creates thieves through deprivation. It promises fame and forces the famous into reclusiveness.
The sorrow exists in consciousness and expresses through the whole person. Degenerate thoughts colour the ink with which Spirit writes the Book of Life. Materialism is the cloak over the True Spiritual nature which prevents the intellect from appropriating the Light essential for joyful living.
The Body is our living record; a self-perpetuating, self-renewing, self-updating, self-knowing, inescapable register of everything we think, speak, eat, drink, do, and experience. None of us can hide who and what we are.
Every motive, thought, word, and deed contributes to the condition of the Promised Land. The Body reveals the living record of the relationship between the Higher mind and the lower mind, between God and individuality.
The EVER-LIVING comes down to deliver the children of Israel, our individuality, out of the hand of the Egyptians, our personality.
Each day as the initiate applies themselves, Spirit moves within consciousness and awakens the intellect. The intellect begins to see clearly. It recognises degenerate patterns that once appeared normal and begins to question the authority they have exercised.
The awakening is a New Birth, when each one awakens to the realisation that each is held absolutely and completely responsible for every thought, word, and deed. Once we see an error, we can no longer pretend that it does not exist. The law-bearing faculty must learn how to reorder the whole consciousness through Divine Law.
The EVER-LIVING promises to bring the children of Israel into a good and large land. The Promised Land symbolises the Body. The Body is good because Spirit formed its blueprint. The Body is large because its capacities extend far beyond the narrow limits imposed by material thinking.
The lower mind has occupied this land and ruled it with violence. Inherited beliefs, emotional reactions, habits, appetites, and selfish motives have established themselves within the body-consciousness. They have shaped the rooms of the personality and coloured the ink with degenerate thought, word, and deed, writing these into our Book of Life.
Yet within us all, the land flows with milk and honey. Milk represents Spiritual nourishment suited to the early stages of growth. Honey represents the sweetness that enters consciousness as the intellect begins to recognise the Divine Presence within. The Higher mind nourishes the awakening Soul, and we begin to live daily in alignment with Divine Law.
As we live by Divine Law and cultivate our garden of consciousness each day, sowing seeds of Truth, the body-consciousness begins to receive a more harmonious life-current. The Promised Land starts to express its original blueprint. The Living Waters welling up within water the seeds of the new state of consciousness.
Yet several nations already occupy the land. The names reveal the states of consciousness that require recognition, understanding, and transformation.
Canaan means ‘lowland’. Canaan represents the body-consciousness and the deeper subconscious realm where ideas take root and form. The lower mind has filled this land with thoughts drawn from materiality. The Canaanite represents the general body of sense thoughts occupying the Promised Land.
These thoughts have grown through habit, repetition, emotional reaction, and generations of exposure to the Race Thought Atmosphere. They shape the personality until the person mistakes them for their True identity.
The Hittite name carries the meanings ‘broken in pieces’, ‘sundered’, and ‘terror’. The Hittites represent fear and division. They arise when thought separates itself from Spirit and begins to interpret life through appearances alone.
Fear fragments consciousness. Once fragmented, the person has many cracks where error enters and takes root. One thought opposes another. Emotion pulls against reason. The person feels divided within themselves and threatened by the world around them.
The Amorite name means ‘mountaineer’ or ‘highlander’. The Amorites represent the race thought of the generation of the flesh elevated to a high place in consciousness. Material values assume authority and demand that the whole person serve them. The personality begins to worship appearance. Status, possession, sexuality, approval, power, and personal ambition occupy the high places that are reserved for communion with God within.
The Perizzite name means ‘rustic’ or ‘dweller in the country’. The Perizzites represent subconscious thoughts that remain close to the uncultivated regions of consciousness. These thoughts may appear opposed to Spirit, yet Divine Order can redeem them.
Introspection reveals we need to become the gardeners of our consciousness. We examine each thought carefully, remove the weeds, enrich the soil, and give the seeds of the Truth ideas we recognise room to grow.
The Hivite name means ‘physical existence’, ‘life born of effort’, and ‘wickedness’. The Hivites represent thoughts belonging to the carnal consciousness. They assume that life depends entirely upon personal effort and physical activity. The person strives, pushes, competes, and struggles.
They may achieve much outwardly while exhausting the nervous system and depleting the life-current. They have not yet learned to receive from the inner source. Today we call this burn out. It is one of the most common experiences in the world today as inequitable systems create trauma, driving people to do more and more for less and less, exactly like the Israelites in Egypt.
The Jebusite name means ‘trodden down’, ‘conquered’, and ‘profaned’. The Jebusites represent the Spiritual peace centre within consciousness brought under the rule of purely sense and carnal thoughts. The inner sanctuary has become crowded. Noise, hurry, worry, reaction, and material preoccupation tread down the quiet place where the Soul communes with God.
Peace of mind is the inner sanctuary. Once this is disturbed, an individual no longer governs their life. So, while these nations occupy the land, they do not own it; the truth is our body belongs to the EVER-LIVING.
The Divine blueprint remains intact beneath every acquired error, every habit, every fear, and every inherited thought. The purpose and the process of ReGeneration is to reorder the Promised Land back into harmony with its source.
The cry of the children of Israel reaches God; Our Highest Ideals seek expression. They yearn to rise out of the structures built by the lower mind and enter the body-consciousness as living Truth. The day has arrived. We confront ourselves face to face. Who AM I really? What is my purpose here? Why is everything I do benefitting others, while I suffer?
The EVER-LIVING sends Moses to Pharaoh. The awakening intellect must enter the subconscious realm and confront the ruling thought. It must identify the errors, understand their structure, and begin to bring the faculties out of bondage.
Moses asks, “Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh?” The question reveals humility and uncertainty born of personal history. It takes great effort to be who you are as a daughter or son of God when, for decades, the world has plastered one label after another onto you: a nationality, a colour, a creed, a title. All these and many others, are error. The Truth, is that each individual is a daughter or son of God, and there is no higher authority, no other valid title. Other labels are adjectives describing behaviour, not terms to use for identity.
Through this introspection, the intellect has glimpsed the Light, yet it still remembers its former errors. Moses remembers the Egyptian he struck and buried in the sand. He remembers his flight into Midian. He knows how deeply Pharaoh’s influence reaches into consciousness.
Each of us asks the same question. Who am I to overcome the thoughts, habits, fears, and impulses that have shaped my life for years? Who am I to reorder the body-consciousness? Who am I to enter the Promised Land and fulfil my Highest Ideals?
The EVER-LIVING answers, “Certainly I will be with thee.” I AM is the foundation of the whole ReGenerative process. Personal willpower cannot complete the work; the intellect only succeeds as it listens to the Higher mind and allows Divine Law to guide each step.
God within does the work through us. We participate through sincerity, attention, discipline, prayer, meditation, and the daily examination of motives. The token will come after Moses brings the people out of Egypt. He will return to the mountain and serve God there.
This will be the same mountain where the intellect first received the Light and will later become the place where the whole consciousness receives Divine Law. Horeb prepares the way for Sinai. The solitary realisation must expand into a living order governing the faculties, the body-consciousness, and every aspect of daily life.
The token is the sign by which the Spiritual will later recognises that the call was truly from God. It comes after Moses has brought the people out of Egypt and returns with them to the mountain. This teaches that God within does the work through us, yet the confirmation of the work appears only as we participate through sincerity, attention, discipline, prayer, meditation, and the daily examination of motives.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that the cry for liberation rises when the Highest Ideals can no longer endure bondage beneath the lower order.
This lesson teaches that the EVER-LIVING God sees, hears, and knows the condition of consciousness. The suffering of the faculties does not disappear into silence. Every burden, every taskmaster, every misdirected life-current, and every sorrow is known within I AM.
The initiate learns that the Promised Land is the body restored to Divine Order. The body has been occupied by inherited beliefs, material values, emotional reactions, appetites, and selfish motives. These are the nations in the land. They occupy the field, yet they do not own it. The initiate also learns that liberation requires confrontation.
Moses must return to Pharaoh. The awakening intellect cannot remain on the mountain enjoying illumination while the faculties remain enslaved. The Light received in solitude must be carried into the subconscious realm where the ruling thought holds power.
The nations named in the land teach the initiate to identify the actual conditions within the body-consciousness: sense thought, fear, division, material ambition, uncultivated subconscious thought, effort-based carnal living, and the profaned peace centre. These must be recognised before they can be transformed.
The question “Who am I?” teaches humility. The initiate remembers former errors, past reactions, and personal history. Yet the answer comes from the EVER-LIVING: “Certainly I will be with thee.” The work is not accomplished by personal willpower. It is accomplished as the intellect listens to the Higher mind and participates sincerely in the ReGenerative process.
This establishes the sixth principle of Exodus: when the cry of our Highest Ideals rises through consciousness, the EVER-LIVING commissions the awakening intellect to confront the lower order and begin the work of liberation. God within guides the whole ReGenerative process and leads the faculties toward the Promised Land: the body restored to Divine Order.
Movement One: Part Seven
The Revelation of I AM
Exodus 3:13–22
Scripture Passage
Exodus 3:13–22
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children
of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me
unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say
unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou
say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the
children of Israel, The EVER-LIVING, the God of your fathers, the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you:
this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all
generations.
16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The
EVER-LIVING, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and
of Jacob, hath appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and
seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
17 and I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt
unto the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and
the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, unto a land flowing
with milk and honey.
18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and
the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him,
The EVER-LIVING, the God of the Hebrews, hath met with us: and now let
us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we
may sacrifice to the EVER-LIVING our God.
19 And I know that the king of Egypt will not give you leave to go, no,
not by a mighty hand.
20 And I will put forth my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders
which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you
go.
21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and
it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.
22 But every woman shall ask of her neighbour, and of her that
sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and
raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters;
and ye shall despoil the Egyptians.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has received his commission. The EVER-LIVING sends him back into Egypt to confront Pharaoh and draw the children of Israel out of bondage. Yet Moses asks the question every sincere initiate eventually asks:
“What is His name?”
A name reveals nature, character, quality, and power. Moses seeks the living Principle he can carry into the depths of consciousness. The law-bearing faculty needs more than a memory of past faith; it needs that faith to mature into a direct realisation of God within.
The answer comes from the centre of Being:
I AM THAT I AM.
The author of the Torah is speaking from experience, in hindsight. Whoever wrote the books, whether one person or different people and then collated, no one knows for certain. What we do know from living the teachings is that they describe a definite process of ReGeneration.
So, there is an essential distinction here: for the author the books are history, lived experience. For the reader they are prophecy; what will happen when one follows the teaching exactly, as the deeper meaning is revealed.
The Torah is a form of ‘recipe book’ for ReGeneration, and will produce results when lived, in exactly the same way that a recipe for an exceptionally high-quality apple pie will produce consistent results by all those who diligently weigh and measure ingredients and follow the recipe and method precisely.
Moses asks God, “What is His name?” The intellect has reached a decisive point. It has encountered the molten golden fyre of Love burning in the solar plexus, it has heard the call from within, and accepted the work of liberation.
Now it seeks the source. A name reveals nature. It sums up the essence of nature, and everything once given a name has a place in creation. Encountering, rather tasting God, via the inner flame, causes us to inquire as to God’s, and therefore our own, True nature.
Once we have tasted God’s indescribable glory and know the nature of a principle, we begin to understand how that principle works through consciousness, character, the body-consciousness, and daily life.
God answers: “I AM THAT I AM.” The Divine Name reveals self-existent Being.
The EVER-LIVING is the One who is, who was, and who always will be. Life does not begin outside us and travel inward. The source lives within. I AM is the centre of consciousness. It is the Holy Name we are not to take in vain, that is, use flippantly.
“The power of death and life is in the tongue.”
Proverbs 18:21
Every person uses the words “I am” throughout the day. Each statement directs Spiritual energy into the garden of consciousness, watering the thought structures which have harnessed and shaped life’s energy, as plants shape life’s energy in a garden. These thought structures live in us, as us, and when they do not align with the principles of I AM, they do not express our True nature.
When the lower mind harnesses Spiritual life and says, “I am tired”, “I am afraid”, “I am angry”, or “I am defeated”, it is looking back and, by speaking the word, sowing the same experience into consciousness for a repeated round of similar experiences.
So, the lower mind, in its error, cultivates the garden with inferior concepts that fall short of the mark of perfection, sows seeds of ‘sin’. It colours the ink with which Spirit writes the Book of Life. It creates rooms in the personality and furnishes them with the very thoughts we repeatedly affirm, and creates the same conditions over and over. Each loop reproduces the same words, and the cycle continues.
On another plane altogether, the I AM, the Higher mind, shines Light on the awakening intellect. When the intellect realises the power of the Word and no longer takes the name in vain, it speaks with authority and begins to use the Divine Name with reverence.
“I AM Spirit.”
“I AM Life.”
“I AM Peace.”
“I AM Love.”
“I AM Strength.”
“I AM one with God.”
“I AM THAT I AM”.
“I AM THAT I AM” means: “I AM WHO I HAVE CREATED MYSELF TO BE”.
To reach this high place in consciousness requires sincerity, dedication, focus, perseverance, Wisdom, Love, and determination. Cultivate these qualities until you embody them, and realise the power of the process of ReGeneration.
Embodiment of these qualities is the goal. The intellect lies when it says “I know” as a mere mental claim. This is a half-truth at best, for we only truly know when the intellect, the emotions, and the actions are united in consciousness as one and the flame they produce when fused together burns within us.
I AM is expressed as individuality. Personality cloaks the I AM. The personality cannot claim the Divine Name for selfish ambition. It cannot use I AM as a tool for acquisition, vanity, control, or personal advantage. To do so, as history bears witness, sustains division, hatred, fear, greed, and all the other heinous behaviour witnessed for millennia.
So, the personality bows before the I AM. The lower mind receives in-struction from the Higher mind and learns to serve the Divine pattern concealed within the Body-Temple.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses to say: “I AM hath sent me unto you.” The law-bearing faculty now carries authority from within. “I AM hath sent me unto you” means Moses had reached a state of communion with God-Self and received the clarity, Wisdom, and Love to lead His people.
“I AM hath sent me to you” is another way of saying: “I AM your SELF-appointed leader, come to serve you and lead you out of bondage, because you have not yet reached the level of Spiritual maturity required for common-unity, freedom, individual peace, and social harmony”.
This is a great realisation for every member of the human family. No longer depending upon Pharaoh’s approval, the world’s labels, or external systems, one speaks from the inner source. This is the beginning of true self-governance and sovereignty.
An adept leads through demonstration. Initiates submit themselves to instruction only as long as required to become self-sufficient, and the relationship is dissolved when either party willingly seeks to harm the other.
I AM is the Word of God animating each of us. Words gain power when clarity of thought, purity of motive, faithfulness in speech, honesty in action, and body-consciousness begin to move together in Divine Order.
The EVER-LIVING identifies Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Abraham represents faith in the one God. Isaac represents joy, laughter, and the delight that arises when faith begins to bear fruit. Jacob represents the developing I AM identity through which the faculties gather and organise.
These stages form a living sequence. Faith Matured is the open door, the direct communion with God. Joy confirms the door is open and God is flowing into consciousness. Then I AM starts to gather the faculties and prepare them for expression.
The EVER-LIVING says:
“This is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”
The Divine Name belongs to every age, every nation, and every school of thought; to every one of us. We do not breathe by ourselves. The Divine Breath breathes through us and animates us. I AM imparts life to us from the centre of every Hu-man Be-ing. We are to re-discover this Truth and bring it into expression through thought, word, deed, and body-consciousness/action.
Moses’ responsibility as self-appointed leader is to live by the inspiration of the Spirit, I AM, and gather the elders of Israel. The elders represent thoughts whose Spiritual understanding has become well established. These thoughts have matured through experience, reflection, meditation, and the sincere application of Truth.
They carry authority within consciousness. The elders can hear Moses because they already recognise something of the Law. They can support the law-bearing faculty as it begins the work of liberation.
The EVER-LIVING says: “I have surely visited you.” This visitation takes place within. The Holy Flame, once experienced in the inward parts, can never be forgotten. The Light of this Spirit illumines the intellect. A familiar thought suddenly reveals a deeper meaning. The flame becomes more tangible, and God’s inner Presence becomes ever more real to the mind and feelings.
God sees the affliction. There is a realisation, a disparity between what it is we intend to do and the results we are getting, because we are being suppressed by either our own lower mind, or the systems in the world, the lower mind has created. To liberate ourselves, we need to go deeper and understand them and do the work to overcome them.
So, EVER-LIVING God, I AM, sees the affliction, the disparity, and the awakening intellect can no longer overlook what material thinking has done within the Promised Land. The EVER-LIVING again names the nations occupying the land.
Each represents thoughts, habits, reactions, appetites, fears, and ambitions that have settled into the body-consciousness and shaped the personality. Our work becomes clear: the Higher mind leads the lower mind into recognising each error, understanding its root, and replacing it with Truth.
This is inner gardening of the consciousness, where we use the power of the I AM expressed as the spoken Word to find and uproot the destructive thought forms that misuse of “I AM” has planted in our gardens. A deeper process of refinement begins.
Concerted, focussed effort is required. Moses and the elders must go to the king of Egypt. The law-bearing faculty and the well-established Spiritual thoughts, our Highest Ideals, now confront the ruling lower thought together. The lower mind must hear the Truth clearly.
“The EVER-LIVING, the God of the Hebrews, hath met with us.” Hebrew carries the meaning of passing over. The Hebrews represent thoughts that have begun to pass over from purely material thinking into a higher conception of God and Divine Law. Another term for Hebrew is Ibri, meaning ‘from the other side’, that is, from the God side or Spiritual side of existence.
The Ibri have crossed an inner threshold. They arise in consciousness and their number becomes so great that the Egyptians cannot ignore them. They are peace-loving thoughts. They are present in large numbers. That is intimidating to the material thoughts.
This is the ninety-nine percent of goodness within us seeking to overcome the one percent of materialistic, yet governing, thoughts cultivated throughout our history. These peace-loving thoughts no longer feel satisfied with the narrow values of Egypt. They yearn for freedom, Truth, peace, and conscious communion with God within.
Moses asks for a three days’ journey into the wilderness. Three refers to Spirit, Soul, and Body. The whole person must enter the wilderness of silence and separate from the noise of material thinking. We withdraw daily through meditation; still the intellect and calm the emotions. We move beyond the Race Thought Atmosphere and listen for the quiet direction of the Higher mind.
When we are still, we hear the voice of EVER-LIVING God.
The people seek to sacrifice to the EVER-LIVING. Sacrifice means giving up the lower for the higher. We place fear, greed, appetite, prejudice, resentment, pride, and personal ambition upon the altar of consciousness, and we surrender every thought that restricts the free flow of Spirit.
Pharaoh will resist. The ruling lower thought has built an entire system around material values. It does not surrender its authority merely because the intellect has glimpsed Truth. The thought structures constructed within are neurons. They take time to ReGenerate. This appears as resistance, because habits have been formed, structured, concretised and accumulated. They have commandeered thoughts and actions.
Overcoming them takes concerted effort. It requires more than “letting go and letting God.” Ideas are like trees. It is as simple for the tree to let go of the ground as it is for the ground to let go of the tree. So, it is not simple. They are intertwined, and a symbiotic relationship exists between them.
So too with neurons and the brain structure itself. Appetite resists discipline. Fear resists faith. Pride resists humility. Ambition resists peace. The one way to change this is via the Spoken Word.
The EVER-LIVING says that He will put forth His hand and smite Egypt with wonders. The hand represents power in expression. The Divine Law exposes each error through its own fruit. Every selfish motive eventually reveals its consequences in thought, feeling, relationship, circumstance, and body-consciousness.
The plagues describe the effects of living degenerate lives. They reveal the hidden order. Order is the first Law of the Universe. Each plague will reveal what has already been taking place beneath the surface.
The EVER-LIVING promises that the children of Israel will not leave empty. The faculties have served Egypt for many years. Their energy, intelligence, strength, skill, and substance have built Pharaoh’s store-cities.
Now they reclaim what belongs to the Higher mind. The women ask for jewels of silver, and gold, as well as raiment. The women represent the receptive faculties of the Soul. Silver represents substance purified through understanding. Gold represents Spiritual value, wisdom, and the riches of Spirit. Raiment represents the thoughts, attitudes, and words with which we clothe our expression-our vocabulary.
The sons and daughters receive these treasures. The positive and receptive faculties gain new resources for the journey ahead. Everything we have learned through experience has value for the journey ahead. Even years immersed in material thinking can yield wisdom once the intellect turns toward God within and examines the lessons sincerely. The children of Israel despoil the Egyptians, meaning the individual gains Wisdom and reclaims the life-current from the personality.
Energy once squandered on worry begins to serve prayer. Energy once squandered on appetite begins to serve discipline. Energy once squandered on ambition begins to serve purpose. Energy once squandered on fear begins to serve faith. The treasures of Egypt will later contribute to the building of the sanctuary. The same substance once used to preserve bondage will help construct the Body-Temple.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that the Divine Name is the centre of identity.
“I AM” is the point of contact between the individual and the EVER-LIVING. This state creates reverence. Every “I AM” statement directs Spiritual energy into consciousness. The initiate learns that speech carries formative power, and that the misuse of the Divine Name plants and waters inferior thought structures in the garden of consciousness.
This lesson teaches that I AM is the individuality, not the personality, often mistakenly called ‘the ego’. There is one ego in existence God. Our I AM rests in God as our centre. The personality overlays the individuality and it is the personality we are to refine and ReGenerate.
The personality may try to use I AM for ambition, control, acquisition, approval, or vanity; this causes degeneration, sustains division and suffering. While the true use of I AM requires alignment with Spirit, purity of motive, and the willingness to serve Divine Order.
The initiate also learns that authority arises from communion with God within. Moses receives authority because he has encountered the EVER-LIVING and carries the Divine Name into Egypt. The awakening intellect no longer depends upon external approval. It speaks from the inner source.
The elders of Israel represent well-rooted thoughts that can respond to the law-bearing faculty. The initiate learns to gather these established Spiritual thoughts before confronting Pharaoh. Liberation requires the cooperation of the deeper faculties, not merely a passing inspiration.
The request for a three days’ journey teaches that Spirit, Soul, and Body must withdraw from the noise of material thinking and enter the wilderness of silence. Sacrifice means giving up the lower for the higher. The initiate places fear, appetite, resentment, pride, and personal ambition upon the altar.
This lesson also teaches that Pharaoh will resist. Old thought structures do not dissolve merely because Truth has been intellectually recognised. Habit, appetite, fear, pride, and ambition are deeply rooted in the emotional nature, and their structure makes them ‘resist’ Divine Order. Their resistance reveals the depth of the bondage.
Finally, the initiate learns that nothing lived through sincerely is wasted. The treasures of Egypt are reclaimed. Energy once spent in fear, appetite, ambition, and worry can be redirected into prayer, discipline, purpose, and faith. The same substance once used to preserve bondage can later help build the sanctuary.
This establishes the seventh principle of Exodus: when the intellect recognises the EVER-LIVING as the I AM within, it gains the authority to confront the ruling thought of the personality. The Higher mind begins to reclaim the life-current, purify the faculties, and draw the whole person out of bondage toward the Promised Land.
Movement One: Part Eight
The Three Signs Given to Moses
Exodus 4:1–9
Scripture Passage
Exodus 4:1–9
1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe
me, nor hearken unto my voice; for they will say, The EVER-LIVING hath
not appeared unto thee.
2 And the EVER-LIVING said unto him, What is that in thy hand? And he
said, A rod.
3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and
it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the EVER-LIVING said unto Moses, Put forth thy hand, and take it
by the tail: and he put forth his hand, and laid hold of it, and it
became a rod in his hand:
5 That they may believe that the EVER-LIVING, the God of their fathers,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath
appeared unto thee.
6 And the EVER-LIVING said furthermore unto him, Put now thy hand into
thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out,
behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.
7 And he said, Put thy hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand
into his bosom again; and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it
was turned again as his other flesh.
8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither
hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice
of the latter sign.
9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe even these two
signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water
of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou
takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has received the revelation of the I AM. He knows that the EVER-LIVING sees the affliction, hears the cry, and knows the sorrows of the children of Israel. He knows that the Highest Ideals must rise out of bondage and enter the Promised Land. The Highest ideals are God’s chosen. That is the Spiritual qualities of goodness of which our blueprint is comprised.
Moses as self-appointed leader is accepted by some. Likewise, when we achieve a certain level of self-control, our lower mind will resist as will the established systems of the world- these are built on violence, force and attempts to impose order. So, a question arises: Will the faculties listen to the newly awakening and light appropriating intellect?
Moses understands the resistance within consciousness. For decades, Pharaoh has ruled Egypt. Material values have shaped the personality, directed the life-current, and furnished the rooms of the lower mind.
The Higher mind now gives Moses three signs. Each sign reveals an aspect of Divine Law. Each sign demonstrates that the same life energy produces entirely different effects according to the motive and consciousness directing it.
Now, the terms EVER-LIVING God, the EVER-LIVING, and God, these are the Spiritual essence of life, the Higher mind is the field of expression, the lower mind is the materialistic field.
First sign: The rod becomes a serpent and returns to the hand. Second sign: The hand becomes leprous and returns to wholeness. Third sign: The water of the river becomes blood upon the dry land. These three signs reveal the relationship between Spiritual power, motive, action, and the body-consciousness.
Moses fears that the children of Israel will not believe him. Still, the intellect has tasted the molten golden fyre of Love. It has received the revelation of the I AM and recognised the call to liberation. Yet the established thoughts within consciousness have lived under Pharaoh’s rule for many years.
They have never heard the voice of Spirit. When it comes to them clothed in flesh, they refuse to believe. They have learned to measure life through appearances, material values, habit, and the Race Thought Atmosphere. They demand evidence.
This describes an inner experience familiar to every initiate. We may encounter God in the silence and feel the Presence with unmistakable clarity. Its Truth becomes indubitable to us, and we commit our lives to learning more.
Then we turn our attention back to life’s daily struggles. The established way of thinking demands proof. Fear says, “Can this really change?” Habit says, “You have tried before, it’s no good.” Appetite says, “This is your food.” Through all this, the intellect begins to doubt the Light it received on the mountain.
The EVER-LIVING asks Moses: “What is that in thy hand?” Moses answers: “A rod.”
The rod represents the measure of the divine law we have managed to grasp up until this point. It is our ability to see, hold, and measure Spiritual power as it becomes evident to us. It symbolises self-mastery, authority, the power of Divine Life, and the capacity to direct energy into expression. A shepherd uses a rod to guide the flock. The king carries a sceptre as a visible sign of authority.
Moses carries the rod in his hand. The Divine Law is the only True governor of Life.
“Think not I came to abolish the Law; I came to fulfil it.”
Jesus, Matthew 5:17
The hand represents power in expression. It translates thought and motive into action. Through the hand, an inner idea enters the outer world and begins to take form. The EVER-LIVING tells Moses to cast the rod upon the ground. The ground represents the foundation of consciousness. It also points to the material plane where Spiritual energy enters expression. The rod becomes a serpent.
A serpent represents sensation and sense-consciousness. It carries life energy close to the ground. It moves through the lower field of material experience, appetite, desire, instinct, attraction, and reaction. When we apply Divine Law, we start to experience its effects. The activity of the Law becomes apparent to our senses. Sensation belongs to the Divine creation, yet it has been made to serve the lower mind.
Our difficulties begin when sensation assumes authority and directs the whole person. This was the error of the body-consciousness, Eve, in the Garden of Eden. She listened to sensation and gave it to Adam, the intellect. Consequently, they were cast out of the garden, having lost their conscious, constant inner connection to God.
Consequently, our sensations are reduced to material experiences. The life-current then crawls upon its belly and feeds upon the dust of materiality; the world and its systems.
Spiritual power cast down into material thinking becomes serpent power. The same energy that can lift thought toward God can flow into appetite, ambition, resentment, sexual obsession, emotional reaction, ad-diction, and the desire to control.
The life-current remains powerful. We have diverted it and changed its direction. This explains why material habits are so impelling; they draw on the one Spirit of Life animating us. The lower mind has harnessed the Divine Life and directed it into thought structures rooted in sensation.
Moses flees from the serpent. Lack of understanding induces fear in consciousness. Fear is the divide between I AM and the Personality. When the awakening intellect sees the power of its own true nature, it becomes afraid. This happens during sincere introspection.
As we cultivate the garden of consciousness, we begin to recognise thoughts and motives we previously overlooked. We see how deeply fear, appetite, pride, anger, ambition, and other degenerate ideas forming our personal history have rooted themselves within us.
The discovery can feel overwhelming. The intellect seeks a way to escape. Yet the EVER-LIVING tells Moses to put forth his hand and take the serpent by the tail. The tail represents the outermost expression, the final result of a thought process already active within consciousness.
We often begin there. We notice the behaviour, symptom, argument, recurring condition, ad-diction, anxiety, or exhaustion. These are the tail ends of deeper patterns. The law-bearing faculty takes hold of the serpent. It stops fleeing from the evidence.
It begins to examine the results calmly and trace them back through action, word, thought, motive, feeling, and memory to the head. This is introspection. When Moses takes hold of the serpent, it once again becomes a rod in his hand, indicating that sensation can and will return to Divine Order.
The same energy once squandered through appetite becomes disciplined vitality. The emotional force once expressed as anger becomes courage. The energy once consumed by fear becomes faith. The same ambition once directed toward personal advantage becomes purpose. One’s motives have changed; one can see how to overcome and can continue in the ReGenerative process. Energy squandered in materiality is redirected as Spiritual aspiration.
We lose nothing; our life energy does not disappear; the Higher mind has reclaimed it. This first sign teaches mastery. We take hold of the serpent and raise its energy into higher use; we do not destroy it. Once again, good is entering into evil and transforming it.
Good never fights evil. It transforms it by shining the Light of superior understanding. In that Light, everything is seen for what it is. The rod, measure of Divine Law, applied consistently to sense reasoning, leads to Wisdom expressed through understanding and love.
Consequently, as we apply this Wisdom, we master the senses and live directed by Faith and Wisdom. The body-consciousness now becomes a willing participant in the ReGenerative process.
The EVER-LIVING gives Moses a second sign. He tells Moses to place his hand into his bosom. The bosom represents the inner heart-centre, the region of motive, feeling, affection, memory, and deeply held belief. The hand enters the bosom.
Action returns to motive. Before we can purify our deeds, we must examine the inner source from which they arise. Why did I say that? Why did I react in that way? Why do I keep repeating this pattern? What do I really value? What am I seeking to gain? What am I afraid of losing?
The hand comes out leprous, white as snow. Leprosy represents life activity separated from its source. The life-current no longer flows harmoniously through the faculty. Error has interrupted the relationship with Spirit. The outer action carries the imprint of an inner motive formed in materiality.
The hand reveals what the bosom contains. Our every action carries the signature of its motive. A generous act may conceal a desire for approval. A helpful act may conceal a desire to control. Silence may conceal resentment. Hard work may conceal fear. Religious terminology may conceal pride.
This demonstration reveals that outer action can appear clean while the inner motive remains fragmented, corrupt, and misaligned with I AM. As our Book of Life, the Body records the Truth. Our Book of Life is composed of every motive, thought, word, deed, emotion, meal, drink, and experience.
Spirit writes the Body, while personality colours the ink. The hand becomes leprous because the inner life has lost its unified flow. Fear, resentment, selfishness, all fragment consciousness. Division and personal ambition fragment consciousness. Every fracture creates cracks where error enters and takes root.
Ambition fragments consciousness because it usurps energy required for maintaining health and continued ReGeneration.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses to place his hand into his bosom again. The return inward begins the healing process. The leprous hand brought the cause to light, we examine our motive carefully and the hand comes out restored. Selfishness is a leprous hand, right-use-ness is a healthy hand. The hands are the flowers of the heart; they do what our hearts ask of them.
When we hold our hand, our actions up to the light of I AM, and examine them sincerely, and correct ourselves, the hand comes out restored; this is the work of ReGeneration. Through this deep inner process of introspection, the Higher mind illumines the lower mind. Truth replaces error, love dissolves fear and our reverence restores order.
Our thoughts, words, deeds, and actions change as a result of changing our motives. This is why ReGeneration transforms the whole individual, rather than being an attempt at behaviour modification. A person may will or force an outer change for a time, yet, when the motive, the root, remains untouched, it produces another expression, in another part of the garden, on a different day.
In this process patience is required, we are not to condemn ourselves or each other:
“Neither do I condemn thee.”
John 8:11
We are to learn how to use the Law that has always operated, though we were ignorant of it. When we speak the Word, the Divine Law takes it and reaches the root. This is symbolised by Moses reaching back into his bosom, to the heart of the matter, as we would say today. When we seek to reconcile, we say “let’s talk heart-to-heart”, and with this openness, we help each other heal.
Our sincere desire to overcome the lower mind will bear fruit. We are to persevere, it does not matter how unkempt and unruly a garden has grown; once we start to ReGenerate it, we shall completely transform it, as long as we “faint not” and continue to do the weeding on a daily basis.
Remember, consciousness is a garden.
ReGeneration uproots the cause; and cleanses the inner source of degeneration and leprosy. It restores the hand; our ability to master the skills necessary to express our Highest Ideals.
The second sign teaches us that we are to purify our motives. The hand that serves the lower mind carries division into expression. The hand guided by the Higher mind becomes a vehicle for Truth doing good.
Our heart is a ‘franking stamp’. With every beat it stamps the essence of our motives into every cell, and these cells then follow the instructions they have received. They build our Body-Temple or carry diseased thoughts which cause degeneration.
“In my flesh, I see God.”
Job 19:26
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Matthew 5:8
The EVER-LIVING gives Moses a third sign. He tells Moses to take water from the river and pour it upon the dry land. The river represents life’s currents. The waters flow continuously from the inner source. They carry the ideas, vitality, intelligence, substance, and movement through which Spirit expresses.
The dry land represents the body-consciousness when material thinking has deprived it of Living Waters of direct inspiration from God. A garden without water becomes hard. The soil cracks, seeds cannot germinate, nothing takes root, and therefore nothing can grow.
The same principle applies within consciousness. When the lower mind cuts itself off from the inner source, the body-consciousness begins to reflect the drought. Joy fades, energy declines, thoughts become rigid, and the personality struggles to maintain itself through force and habit.
Moses pours the river water upon the dry land; the water becomes blood. Blood represents the life-current embodied. It carries vitality, movement, warmth, nourishment, memory, and the formative intelligence required to build and maintain the Body.
“The life is in the blood.”
Leviticus 17:11
The river and the blood belong to one continuous process. Spirit is linked with Latin spiritus, breath and spirare to breathe; spiro, ‘I breathe’. The I is God. When we breathe, we are accepting God into the Temple and we are animated. Consequently, the deep inner currents of pure life, our Living Waters, enter the body-consciousness and become the circulating stream through which the Book of Life continually updates itself.
Spirit breathes through us, unites with the motives, and sends the message, the angels, to the heart, which stamps the condition of consciousness upon the circulating life-current. Every thought, motive, word, deed, meal, drink, and experience contributes to the message moving through the Body.
Our blood becomes the living record, continually either ReGenerating us or causing degeneration. When fear, hatred, greed, resentment, appetite, and anxiety rule the lower mind, they colour the life-current with disorder, corruption, and degeneration.
When our motives embody faith, love, peace, sincerity, discipline, and reverence, these qualities guide the faculties and charge the life-current with harmony. This third sign brings the ReGenerative process we are all participating in into the Light.
The rod reveals Spiritual power.
The hand reveals motive entering action.
The blood reveals the life-current writing the Body.
Spirit, Soul, and Body form one living process.
The EVER-LIVING gives Moses these signs so the children of Israel may believe. The Highest Ideals need demonstration. Leadership requires demonstration. Together they build the bridge of Faith connecting each of us to God within. Faith matures and the mind begins to recognise Truth everywhere.
Truth always bears witness to itself. The law-bearing faculty does not merely speak about Truth; it demonstrates how Spiritual power can master sensation, how purified motives restore right-use-ness to action, and how everything is written into the record book of our Body by the life-current.
Each of these signs reveals an aspect of how Divine Law operates within each of us and becomes evident to the world. They also prepare Moses for the work ahead. When he understands the meaning of these signs, his faith increases and he moves forward with less doubt.
The records teach that Pharaoh resists because the lower order has built itself from deeply rooted thought structures. Neurons, habits, appetites, reactions, and values have intertwined like a tree and the ground. ReGeneration requires daily effort and patience. It requires sincerity, focus, and perseverance, it requires the ‘water’ of Spirit and emotion to loosen the ground that the old ideas lose their grip.
This is our duty towards ourselves: to cultivate a renewed character which leads to SELF-control.
Moving forward, the intellect needs to learn to hold the rod firmly, live by Divine Law as far as it understands it, examine the bosom honestly by identifying motives and understanding why we do things, then consciously use appropriate words to maintain the flow of the Living Waters through the garden of consciousness.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns to demonstrate the Divine Law in daily life. Belief has turned to knowing, and knowing ripens into Wisdom and Wisdom is expressed with love in action.
Moses is concerned that the children of Israel will not listen. The Higher Ideals have lived for a long time under Pharaoh’s rule. They require evidence that the awakening intellect truly carries authority from the EVER-LIVING. The three signs supply that evidence.
The rod teaches mastery. Spiritual power, when cast down into material thinking, becomes serpent power: sensation, sensuality, appetite, reaction, fear, and desire moving close to the ground. The initiate learns to stop fleeing from the serpent and take hold of it. Sensation, once understood and raised, returns to the hand as a rod of authority.
The leprous hand teaches the purification of motive. The hand represents action. The bosom represents the inner heart-centre. When action emerges from fragmented motive, it carries division into expression. When the motive is returned to the Light of I AM, and examined sincerely, the hand is restored; right action begins with purified motive.
The water becoming blood teaches that the life-current writes the body. The Living Waters enter body-consciousness and become the circulating stream through which the Book of Life continually updates itself. Every thought, motive, word, deed, meal, drink, and experience contributes to this living record. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. The heart beat stamps the blood instructing each cell, and each cell carries out the instruction it receives.
The initiate learns that Spirit, Soul, and Body form one continuous process. Spiritual power, motive, action, and the life-current cannot be separated in practice. What is held in consciousness enters expression and becomes embodied.
This lesson also teaches patience. The lower order resists because its structures are deeply rooted. Habit, appetite, fear, ambition, and reaction have intertwined with the personality over time. ReGeneration therefore requires daily effort, sincerity, focus, perseverance, and SELF-control. The Word once spoken in authority will do what it is sent to do.
This establishes the eighth principle of Exodus: the EVER-LIVING gives the awakening intellect three signs of Divine Law. Spiritual power can raise sensation into mastery. Purified motives restore right action. Living Waters enter the body-consciousness as the life-current. When Spirit, Soul, and Body move together in Divine Order, the initiate begins to demonstrate the Truth required for liberation.
Movement One: Part Nine
Aaron Becomes the Mouth of Moses
Exodus 4:10–17
Scripture Passage
Exodus 4:10–17
10 And Moses said unto the EVER-LIVING, Oh, Lord, I am not
eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy
servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the EVER-LIVING said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? Or who
maketh a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the
EVER-LIVING?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what
thou shalt speak.
13 And he said, Oh, Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom
thou wilt send.
14 And the anger of the EVER-LIVING was kindled against Moses, and he
said, Is there not Aaron thy brother the Levite? I know that he can
speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he
seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put the words in his mouth: and I
will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye
shall do.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people; and it shall come to
pass, that he shall be to thee a mouth, and thou shalt be to him as
God.
17 And thou shalt take in thy hand this rod, wherewith thou shalt do the
signs.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has received the revelation of the I AM and the three signs of Divine Law. Yet he recognises a limitation.
The Law-faculty receives Principle within the abstract mind. Divine Law is constantly active, yet it belongs to its own dimension. It does not announce itself. It quietly acts on the thoughts, motives, words, and deeds we set in motion. The Divine Law is not obvious to the lower mind, not ‘eloquent’. It is ‘slow of speech’, that is, it operates in its own time, and appears to the mind to move slowly.
Now the Law must enter expression, the Divine Word requires a Hu-man mouth. Until this moment, the narrative has made no mention of a brother of Moses. Aaron appears precisely when the Law-faculty requires the intellect and the power of speech to affirm freedom.
When Moses says, “I am not eloquent” this means the Law-faculty has received an inner revelation that words cannot easily convey. Moses has tasted God, He has felt the molten golden fyre of Love, and recognised the Divine Presence as real and tangible.
Yet he needs to be able to convey these experiences in Words. No vocabulary can fully describe the experience of coming face to face with God within. The abstract mind receives Principle in the silence, in Light, in Living flame. Only afterwards in union with the emotions, can the intellect learn how to clothe that understanding in language.
Moses says that he is slow of speech and slow of tongue. Speech carries thought into expression. The tongue gives audible form to the ideas moving within consciousness. Divine Law works quietly.
People often assume that because they do not see the Law acting immediately, it does not exist. Gravity also works silently, yet no one escapes its action. Divine Law is written into us, likewise, no one escapes its action.
Our Spoken Word sets the Divine Law into activity within consciousness.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
Proverbs 18:21
Every word carries the essence of the motive behind it. Every word we speak plants a seed in the garden of consciousness or waters a seed already growing there; that is strengthens an established growth. We can also use words to dissolve the roots of undesirable behaviour.
Each time we repeat a phrase, we strengthen a thought structure, or dissolve one. We therefore need to choose our words with care, so that we cultivate the inner Garden and restore its order and beauty.
As we grow up, the intellect absorbs the language of the people around us. Every child grows within a local aspect of the Race Thought Atmosphere. Family, culture, tradition, schools of thought, education, and social conditions all contribute to the vocabulary through which the personality interprets life.
We imitate before we understand. Common phrases enter consciousness: “I cannot,” “I am afraid,” “I am not able,” “I am weak,” and “This is simply who I am.” In a divisive culture, degenerate words and phrases are commonplace. (Lower case I am used when indicating it is used in ignorance of its formative power).
These phrases sustain self-limiting thought structures. They shape behaviour, character, and consequently, reputation. The lower mind then mistakes repetition for Truth and begins to see itself as a victim of circumstances. Circumstances then appear inescapable ‘truth’. They are not. They are the product of thinking, speaking and acting.
When we change our thinking, the words we choose and behave with Wisdom, Love and Kindness, we change everything.
As we think-speak-act, the body-consciousness records the result. The awakening intellect begins to recognise the error of degenerate speech. It becomes more attentive to the words it speaks, the tone it uses, and the motives concealed beneath its speech.
Moses is aware of the responsibility this entails, his purpose is to liberate the children of Israel. Yet this is an inner process. Moses here, as the Law-faculty, is an aspect of the abstract mind, an expression of and co-joined to a revelation of I AM.
So, the Law-faculty requires an avenue of expression; the Word of God requires a Hu-man mouth. The EVER-LIVING asks Moses: “Who hath made man’s mouth?” The mouth represents the faculty of expression. The power faculty centres in the throat; through speech, the invisible enters visibility.
Thought becomes Word, Word becomes action, action becomes right-use character when Wisdom directs it. Action becomes habit when awareness lowers.
Everything is recorded; our body is our book of life.
The EVER-LIVING also asks: “Who maketh a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind?” The passage directs the intellect back to the source of perception and expression.
To hear means to become receptive to Truth.
“He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
Matthew 11:15
To see, means to perceive Divine Law operating beneath appearances, and to speak, means to express the understanding received from the Higher mind and use the law.
God makes the visible organs, while man ‘makes’ them by how they are used. When the lower mind rules consciousness, a person may possess eyes and fail to perceive Truth. They may possess ears and fail to hear the still, small voice within. They may possess a mouth and speak words that reinforce bondage.
The senses remain active, yet material thinking limits their range. The Higher mind edu-cares the individual. It draws forth the deeper capacities concealed within each faculty and teaches the intellect how to hear inwardly, perceive clearly, and speak sincerely.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses: “I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt speak.” This is the origin of inspired speech. Our Body serves as a vehicle for the Spoken Word. To serve God, means to distribute. We receive from Spirit and distribute through thought, word, action, and demonstration.
“For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
Matthew 12:37
Divine Law is no respecter of persons. What we sow, we reap. The intellect becomes quiet, listens, receives, and then speaks from a deeper place. The Word carries power because the speaker has entered into alignment with the source.
Incrementally, the whole person begins to shift. The Higher mind in-structs the lower mind and draws the faculties into Divine Order. Yet Moses still hesitates. He asks the EVER-LIVING to send another.
This reveals a necessary stage. Knowing the Law and thinking about it are insufficient. We are to speak it and live it each day. Inner work has value. Yet, for the Word to penetrate the body-consciousness, for the person to bear witness of truth they need to speak the Word. We are to affirm clearly what we intend to make manifest.
Humility can keep the personality from claiming the work as its own. Yet humility can also become avoidance when a person refuses to act after receiving clear in-struction. The initiate may say, “Someone else can do it better.” “I need to learn more first.” “I am not ready.” These thoughts can conceal fear.
The anger of the EVER-LIVING kindles against Moses; this indicates the pressure we feel when we can no longer tolerate degeneracy and God’s voice within us grows stronger, urging us to do the right thing.
So, Divine anger describes the corrective pressure of the Law, it is not the same as the anger people direct towards one another. When the intellect recognises Truth and delays acting upon it, the disparity creates discomfort. The I AM urges the person forward.
The EVER-LIVING asks: “Is there not Aaron thy brother the Levite?” Aaron means ‘illumined’, ‘enlightener’, and ‘mountaineer’. Aaron represents the illumination of the intellect. His name points to the intellectual consciousness rising toward a higher place and receiving Light from the abstract mind and God. These are melded together into one voice.
Therefore, Moses the Law-faculty of the mind, grasps the abstract Word of God, receives Divine Law inwardly, and Aaron, the awakening intellect gives it a voice. Later, Aaron speaks to Pharaoh while Moses stands beside him. Divine Law remains silent; while the intellect gives it expression through the Spoken Word.
Aaron belongs to Levi. Levi means ‘joining’ or ‘uniting’. The illumined intellect joins inner revelation with outer expression. It receives in-struction from the Law-faculty and formulates that understanding into words. Being a Levite means he belongs to the priestly tribe. This signifies a connection to Source, and he draws his power from both Moses as the Wisdom of the Law who receives it directly from the EVER-LIVING.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses: “Thou shalt speak unto him, and put the words in his mouth.” This establishes the inner order. I AM illumines the Law-faculty, the Law-faculty in-structs the intellect, the intellect speaks the Word, and the Spoken Word affirms freedom.
EVER-LIVING says that Aaron will be glad in his heart when he meets Moses. The intellect recognises the Light it receives from abstract mind. It is a joyful thing to realise that there is a Divine Law of perfect equity. Therefore, the heart responds with joy because Truth is its own authority.
Then EVER-LIVING says: “He shall be to thee a mouth, and thou shalt be to him as God.” The Law-faculty inspires the intellect with the Word; the intellect serves the Law, and speaks the Word. This protects speech from becoming cleverness without Wisdom, eloquence without Truth, or persuasion without Love.
“And thou shalt take in thy hand this rod, wherewith thou shalt do the signs” EVER-LIVING tells Moses. The rod represents the measure of Divine Law as understood and lived. Moses and Aaron will carry the rod and the Word into Egypt; the Spoken Word affirms freedom, and the rod demonstrates the measure of the Law in action.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that inner revelation must find correct expression.
Moses receives Divine Law in the abstract mind, yet he hesitates before speech. This teaches that receiving Light in the silence is only one stage. The initiate must speak the Word, live it, and demonstrate it, before it can liberate the faculties from bondage. In today’s parlance, when we receive truth, we are to walk our talk.
The initiate learns to respect the power of speech. Every word carries motive into expression. Every repeated phrase strengthens a thought structure in the garden of consciousness.
Speech can reinforce bondage or affirm freedom. The tongue becomes either an instrument of the lower mind or a vehicle of the EVER-LIVING. Our body is specifically designed to be a vehicle for Absolute Intelligence / EVER-LIVING God; for the Spoken Word.
This lesson also teaches that the intellect must be illumined before it consciously directs the Law. Aaron represents the intellect raised toward Light. He gives voice to what Moses receives inwardly. When the intellect remains joined to the Law-faculty, speech becomes clear, ordered, and constructive.
The initiate learns that hesitation can hide beneath humility. A person may say, “I am not ready,” or “someone else can do this better,” while the real obstacle is a lack in understanding. Divine Law applies corrective pressure when the intellect recognises Truth and delays acting upon it.
Aaron’s joy reveals that the intellect is glad when it receives true direction; the heart responds when speech, understanding, and Law begin to move together. The Word sends new instructions through the body-consciousness, and the way is being prepared for the expression of the highest ideals.
The relationship between Moses and Aaron teaches the correct inner order. I AM illumines the Law-faculty, the Law-faculty in-structs the intellect, and the intellect speaks the Word. The Spoken Word then enters Egypt and begins to challenge the ruling thought of the lower mind.
This establishes the ninth principle of Exodus: the Law-faculty uses the intellect and the power of speech to affirm freedom. Moses receives Divine Law in an abstract way, and Aaron gives that Law a voice. When the intellect remains joined to the Law-faculty, the Spoken Word becomes an avenue through which the Highest Ideals begin to rise out of bondage.
Movement One: Part Ten
Moses Returns to Egypt with the Rod of God
Exodus 4:18–23
Scripture Passage
Exodus 4:18–23
18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and
said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren that
are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to
Moses, Go in peace.
19 And the EVER-LIVING said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt;
for all the men are dead that sought thy life.
20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and
he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his
hand.
21 And the EVER-LIVING said unto Moses, When thou goest back into Egypt,
see that thou do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in thy
hand: but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people
go.
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the EVER-LIVING, Israel
is my son, my first-born:
23 and I have said unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me; and
thou hast refused to let him go: behold, I will slay thy son, thy
first-born.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has received the revelation of the I AM. He has learned the Law-faculty works within the abstract mind. He has also received Aaron as the intellect through which Divine Law will find expression.
Now the period of preparation draws to a close. Moses returns to Jethro and asks leave to go back to Egypt. The Law-faculty must re-enter the subconscious realm and begin the work of liberation.
Moses returns to Jethro and asks leave to go back to Egypt. Jethro means ‘his abundance’, ‘his superiority’, ‘his pre-eminence’, and ‘his excellence’. He represents the good judgment and inner maturity developed during Moses’ period of reflection.
Moses no longer acts impulsively. He does not flee from Egypt in fear, nor rush back through personal zeal. He acts calmly, with a clear purpose and a peaceful mind. Jethro tells Moses:
“Go in peace.”
This reveals a change within consciousness; the inner strife has quietened. The Law-faculty has learned patience, reflection, and discernment. Moses can now return to Egypt without being drawn immediately into the reactions that once governed him.
He returns to see whether his brethren are still alive. The brethren represent the Higher Ideals still living beneath the rule of the lower mind. The Law-faculty now turns its attention back toward the faculties waiting for liberation. It seeks to discover which ideals remain alive and ready to respond to the call of freedom.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses: “All the men are dead that sought thy life.” The fears that once drove Moses into exile have lost their authority. The former thoughts no longer possess the same power over consciousness. The intellect has appropriated more Light, more understanding. The Law-faculty has matured, the person who fled Egypt no longer exists in the same way.
This is one of the fruits of sincere inner work, we may return to a familiar situation, relationship, memory, or challenge and discover that it no longer governs us as it once did. The outer circumstance may appear similar, yet we have changed.
Moses takes his wife and his sons and sets them upon an ass. The family represents the qualities and faculties developed during the period of preparation. Moses has appropriated everything he has learned in Midian, and he carries the fruit of that training back into Egypt.
The ass represents certain useful aspects of the animal nature. Its characteristics include meekness, persistence, stubbornness, and endurance. Under the rule of the lower mind, these forces can become appetite, inertia, and resistance to change.
Under the guidance of I AM, the same forces serve a higher purpose. Moses places his household upon the ass. The animal nature now carries the developing Spiritual faculties forward. The lower nature no longer determines the destination; it becomes a servant of the journey.
We do not suppress the lower mind, our animal nature contains vitality, endurance, and power. These qualities shall be redirected to higher use in the ReGenerative process once we learn how to control them. The ass serves us; later, Jesus rides into Jeru-Salem, representing the city of peace on an ass.
Moses takes the rod of God in his hand. Earlier, the rod represented the measure of Divine Law. Now the text calls it the rod of God. God is Law in action, the Law-faculty is now empowered by closer proximity to the EVER-LIVING and the new measure of understanding the Divine Law received through communion with the I AM.
The hand expresses power, and the rod in the hand signifies Divine Law ready to enter action. The EVER-LIVING tells Moses to perform the wonders before Pharaoh. The wonders will demonstrate the Law operating beneath appearances.
Pharaoh represents the ruling thought of the lower personality. He has built an entire system around material values and selfish motives. That system will resist; therefore, the EVER-LIVING says:
“I will harden his heart.”
The Light reveals what already exists within the heart. When Truth confronts a deeply established pattern, the resistance becomes visible. The roots of selfishness, greed, materialism, habit and ad-diction become more prominent in consciousness and ‘tighten their hold’. Pride defends itself, appetite demands satisfaction, and fear raises objections and demands obedience/or paralyses into inactivity.
God does not deliberately put obstacles in the way; we become aware of those we have created through past ignorant use of the Word and ignorance of the Divine Law. So “I will harden…” is a literary device teaching the action of the Law.
So, the hardening exposes the depth of the bondage. It also reveals why liberation unfolds as a process. Pharaoh will refuse to let the people go because the lower order depends upon their energy. It has used the Highest Ideals to build its store-cities and preserve its authority.
The EVER-LIVING tells Moses to say:
“Israel is my son, my first-born.” Israel means ‘prince with God’ and ‘one who prevails with God’. Israel represents the individuality and the Highest Ideals arising from God within. They represent the goodness within each of us, which bears God-Nature.
The first-born signifies the initiating principle. It is the first expression of a new order in consciousness. It carries the seed-pattern from which the remaining faculties can be reordered. The Highest Ideals are emanations of the EVER-LIVING. They cannot remain permanently enslaved to selfish motives, greed, pride, material values, or the lower mind’s personality.
Therefore EVER-LIVING says: “Let my son go, that he may serve me.” To serve means to distribute. The Highest Ideals are to distribute the qualities of Spirit through thought, word, deed, relationship, and body-consciousness.
They are unable to fulfil that purpose while labouring beneath Pharaoh, where the lower mind has claimed the life-current for its own ends. Now Divine Law demands release. The previous sincerity and living alignment with Divine Law are bearing fruit. There is going to be a parting of the ways.
The EVER-LIVING warns Pharaoh: “Behold, I will slay thy son, thy first-born.” Pharaoh also has a first-born. This signifies the initiating and perpetuating thought of the lower order. It is the governing motive through which materialistic consciousness reproduces itself.
When selfish motives refuse correction, they begin to destroy their own continuity. The false order cannot preserve itself forever. Its first-born must eventually give way to the first-born of the EVER-LIVING.
The Law-faculty now returns to Egypt carrying peace, discernment, responsibility, and the rod of God. Moses is ready to confront Pharaoh.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that preparation must eventually become action. Moses has lived for years in Midian. He has learned patience, service, reflection, discernment, and friendship with God. Yet the purpose of this preparation was never withdrawal for its own sake. The Law-faculty must return to Egypt and confront the ruling thought of the lower personality.
This lesson teaches the initiate to return in peace. Moses no longer acts from fear or premature zeal. He does not return as the man who struck the Egyptian and hid the deed in the sand. He returns with inner order, carrying the fruit of reflection, and the Divine Purpose arising from it.
The initiate learns that former fears lose authority through sincere inner work. The men who sought Moses’ life are dead. This means the old thoughts that once drove the faculty into exile have lost their governing power. The outer field may look familiar, yet consciousness has changed.
The wife and sons of Moses represent the qualities developed during preparation. Nothing learned in the school of Midian is abandoned. Every lesson, every discipline, every purified thought, and every freer movement of the Soul now returns with Moses into the field of action.
The ass teaches that the animal nature must serve the journey. The lower nature contains endurance, persistence, and vitality. Under Pharaoh, these become stubbornness, appetite, and resistance. Under I AM, the same forces carry the developing faculties forward.
The rod of God teaches that the initiate must carry Divine Law into action. It is no longer enough to understand the Law inwardly. The rod must be held in the hand. The wonders must be performed before Pharaoh; truth must be demonstrated in the very place where bondage has been maintained.
This lesson also teaches that resistance exposes the structure of the old order. Pharaoh’s heart hardens because Truth reveals what already lives within the ruling thought. Fear, greed, selfishness, habit, pride, appetite, personal ambition and more tighten before they yield. This helps the initiate understand why liberation unfolds as a process.
Finally, the initiate learns that Israel is the first-born of the EVER-LIVING; the Highest Ideals belong to God within. They are meant to serve, to distribute Spirit through thought, word, deed, relationship, and body-consciousness. They cannot remain permanently enslaved to the lower personality. “Let my people go”.
This establishes the tenth principle of Exodus: when the Law-faculty matures through reflection and communion with the I AM, it returns to the subconscious realm carrying the rod of God. The animal nature begins to serve the journey. The Highest Ideals claim their rightful place as the first-born of the EVER-LIVING, and Divine Law begins to expose the structure and resistance of the lower order.
Movement One: Part Eleven
The Covenant Mark and the People’s Recognition
Exodus 4:24–31
Scripture Passage
Exodus 4:24–31
24 And it came to pass on the way at the lodging-place, that the
EVER-LIVING met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and
cast it at his feet; and she said, Surely a bridegroom of blood art thou
to me.
26 So he let him alone. Then she said, A bridegroom of blood art thou,
because of the circumcision.
27 And the EVER-LIVING said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet
Moses. And he went, and met him in the mountain of God, and kissed
him.
28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the EVER-LIVING wherewith he
had sent him, and all the signs wherewith he had charged him.
29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the
children of Israel:
30 and Aaron spake all the words which the EVER-LIVING had spoken unto
Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the EVER-LIVING had
visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction,
then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
Meta-Physical Interpretation
Moses has returned toward Egypt carrying the rod of God. The Law-faculty has received its commission and begins to move from preparation into action. Yet, before Moses reaches the children of Israel, a hidden incompleteness must be brought into the Light.
The passage is abrupt because it reveals an inner crisis. The EVER-LIVING meets Moses at the lodging-place and seeks to kill him. Meta-physically, this means Divine Law arrests the movement before the work can proceed. The liberating faculty cannot confront Pharaoh while an essential covenant condition remains neglected.
A lodging-place represents a temporary resting point in consciousness. The journey has begun, yet the faculty has paused between preparation and confrontation. Here, in the interval, Divine Law reveals what still requires consecration.
The issue concerns circumcision, the covenant mark given to Abraham. In Genesis, circumcision signifies the dedication of the generative principle to God. It represents the removal of the surplus sense-covering from the life-current, so that the power of generation no longer serves the lower mind, appetite, instinct, or inherited materiality.
This does not refer merely to an outward religious rite; its inner meaning concerns motive, generation, and the right use of life energy. The liberating faculty must be aligned with the covenant in Spirit, Soul, and Body.
Moses carries the rod of God and has received the revelation of the I AM, yet the fruit of his own household has not fully entered covenant order. This shows a profound law. One cannot lead the Highest Ideals into freedom while leaving the generative life-current partly under the old dispensation. The Law-faculty must bring even the most intimate and inherited aspects of consciousness under Divine Order.
Zipporah acts. Zipporah means ‘little bird’, ‘sparrow’, ‘chirper’, or ‘twitterer’. She represents free, swift thought arising within the Soul; thought that can move between heaven and earth. In this moment, the receptive Soul perceives what must be done before the journey can continue.
She takes a flint. Flint represents sharp Truth, hard, clear, and capable of cutting through what has become attached to the life-current. The instrument is simple, natural, and exact. Truth does not flatter the old covering; it removes it.
The son represents the fruit of the union between Moses and Zipporah, between the Law-faculty and freer Soul-thought. This fruit must bear the covenant mark. The future expression of the Law-faculty must be consecrated. Otherwise, the old sense-covering would continue to influence the new generation of thought.
Zipporah casts the removed covering at Moses’ feet. The feet represent understanding as it contacts the earth and walks through experience. The act brings the whole matter down to the path itself. Moses cannot merely carry Divine Law in the hand as a rod; he must walk in covenant understanding. The very feet of the journey must acknowledge the consecration of the life-current.
Zipporah says, “Surely a bridegroom of blood art thou to me.” Blood represents the embodied life-current. The phrase reveals that union with the Law-faculty requires the living dedication of the whole person. This is not an abstract idea; it is written into the life-current itself.
A bridegroom represents union; blood represents life embodied. The phrase therefore points to the union of the Soul with Divine Law through the consecration of the life-current. The covenant becomes living, practical, bodily, and immediate.
Then the EVER-LIVING lets him alone. The crisis has passed because the neglected point has been corrected. Divine Law no longer arrests the journey; the faculty can continue because the generative principle has been brought into covenant alignment.
This scene teaches that ReGeneration reaches into the hidden places of life. It touches speech, thought, motive, appetite, generation, family, memory, heredity, and the body-consciousness. Nothing remains outside Divine Order; the liberating faculty must be whole before it can lead the Higher Ideals out of bondage.
The narrative then turns to Aaron. The EVER-LIVING tells Aaron to go into the wilderness to meet Moses. Aaron represents the illumined intellect, the faculty of speech and practical expression. He does not meet Moses in Egypt first, He meets him in the wilderness, at the mountain of God.
This is important. The intellect must meet the Law-faculty in the high place of Spiritual realisation before it can speak effectively in Egypt. Speech must receive its authority from inner communion, not from argument, cleverness, rhetoric, or personal persuasion.
Aaron meets Moses and kisses him. The kiss represents acknowledgement of the bond they share. It symbolises agreement, recognition, affection, and union.
The intellect recognises the Law-faculty and joins itself to it; the inner order established earlier now becomes active. Moses receives the words of the EVER-LIVING; Aaron will speak them.
Moses tells Aaron all the words of the EVER-LIVING and all the signs given to him. This means the abstract mind communicates its revelation of Truth to the illumined intellect. The signs are no longer merely private demonstrations, or obscure signs; they are now fully understood and entrusted to the faculty that can express them before the people.
Moses and Aaron then gather the elders of the children of Israel. The elders represent well-established Spiritual thoughts within consciousness. These are thoughts that have endured, matured, and retained some memory of Divine promise. They are the first to be gathered because liberation begins by awakening what is already rooted in Truth.
Aaron speaks all the words which the EVER-LIVING had spoken to Moses. The intellect now gives voice to the Law. The Word passes from God to Moses, from Moses to Aaron, from Aaron to the elders, and then into the wider body of the people.
This is the inner order of true expression. Spirit illumines the Law-faculty; the Law-faculty instructs the intellect; the intellect speaks the Word, the established Spiritual thoughts hear, the faculties begin to awaken.
Aaron also performs the signs in the sight of the people; Truth must be demonstrated. The people need to see that the Law-faculty carries power. The rod, the restored hand, and the sign of the water all bear witness to the fact that Divine Law governs sensation, motive, action, and the life-current.
The people believe. This marks the fulfilment of Movement One. The Highest Ideals, long burdened beneath the rule of Pharaoh, now recognise that the EVER-LIVING has visited them. They hear that God has seen their affliction. They realise that their cry has reached the inner source.
Then they bow their heads and worship. Bowing the head signifies humility of thought; worship signifies the turning of consciousness toward the Divine Presence. The faculties have not yet left Egypt. Pharaoh has not yet been confronted. The plagues have not yet begun. Yet the first inner recognition has taken place.
The enslaved faculties now know they have been seen, heard, and remembered. Movement One therefore closes with recognition, and the seeds of liberation. The Law-faculty has awakened; the intellect has joined it. The covenant mark has been restored; the elders have heard. The signs have been demonstrated. The people have believed.
The work of deliverance can now begin.
What the Initiate Learns from this Lesson
The initiate learns that no true liberation can proceed while the generative life-current remains unconsecrated.
Moses carries the rod of God, yet the journey is halted until the covenant mark is restored. This teaches that Spiritual authority must include the whole person. Thought, speech, motive, action, body, family, generation, and inherited patterns must all come under Divine Order.
The circumcision incident teaches the initiate to remove the surplus covering of sense-consciousness from the life-current. The generative power must serve Spirit, not appetite, fear, heredity, or material desire. The covenant has to be lived in the body-consciousness.
Zipporah’s action teaches that the receptive Soul can perceive what the Law-faculty has overlooked. Free, swift Soul-thought uses sharp Truth to correct the hidden omission. This shows that ReGeneration requires the cooperation of masculine and feminine principles within consciousness.
The phrase “bridegroom of blood” teaches that union with Divine Law is written into the life-current. The covenant is not merely believed by the intellect. It must be embodied, circulated, and lived.
The initiate also learns that Aaron must meet Moses on the mountain before speaking in Egypt. The intellect must join itself to the Law-faculty in a high state of consciousness before it can speak with authority in the lower field.
Moses telling Aaron the words and signs teaches the correct order of expression. The I AM illumines the Law-faculty. The Law-faculty instructs the intellect. The intellect speaks the Word. The signs demonstrate the Law. The elders hear. The people believe.
The people bowing their heads and worshipping teaches that the first victory is inner recognition. The faculties have not yet left Egypt, yet they now know that the EVER-LIVING has visited them and seen their affliction. This recognition prepares consciousness for the confrontation with Pharaoh.
The Realization: Neither the intellectual or emotional stance is a final destination. The intellect, when isolated, becomes rigid; the emotional, symbolic mind, when unanchored, becomes formless. True understanding is the synthesis where the animating principle balances both-and is lived.
This establishes the eleventh principle of Exodus: before the work of deliverance begins outwardly, the Law-faculty must be brought into full covenant alignment, the intellect must unite with it, and the Highest Ideals must recognise that the EVER-LIVING has seen their affliction. Movement One closes with the awakening of faith, reverence, and readiness for liberation.
FOOTNOTE:
The Mechanics of the Synthesis of Intellect and Emotions
Throughout these expositions of the Mysteries of the Torah series, definitions are arrived at through context, etymology and its older cousin, morphology.
The Bound/Enslaved Intellect: When the intellect operates in isolation, it becomes a closed system of rigid definitions, rules, and historical boundaries. It is the mask claiming total authority while forgetting the life-breath passing through it.
The Unanchored Subconscious: When the emotional, symbolic mind acts without structure, it dissolves into raw impulse, distorted and disordered action, and vain imagination. It becomes vulnerable to the shifting currents of the outer world.
The Living Alignment: The animating principle-the true, universal “I AM” is the sovereign centre. It does not choose logic over feeling or morphology over etymology. Instead, it balances both faculties to project a clear, harmonious pattern into the physical body.

The following pages provide the timeline for the creative process contained in the Torah. The chart explains how we are first ‘formed of the earth’, that is we are shaped by our upbringing. Then we receive the ‘breath of life’. This is the entrance into universal consciousness, via conscious communion with the Spirit, the Ruach Ha Kodesh. Next, we receive the Crown of Life, which is the Shekinah glory, the inner Fyre of the Solar Plexus / Heart, which is also called ‘Christ’. That is: we attain communion with God.
“In your patience, possess ye your Souls”
- Luke 21:19
ALL the division in the world is due to the scriptures being hijacked and blind guides leading the blind. The intellect has been captured by Satan and exerts its beastly and supposed authority ‘above God’. Wherever you observe the agenda of division, know that the teachings of the Divine have been misunderstood or directly ignored in favour of the rules of men. The reality is men cannot make Laws. They think they can because their fear has driven them to ‘possess the land’ and all other ‘laws’ emerge from that – and it is they that sustain the division and the sleep of death.
In order to enter into Life, one must live in alignment with the Divine Law having been written into the two ‘stones’ of Moses: each heart and each mind. The purpose of the scriptures is to set everyone free from both inner and outer enslavement. Inner first, outer follows naturally. Only through Ordered Freedom do individuals attain peace of mind, and consequently harmony in society.
Those that divide the Torah from the New Testament, and those dividing the New Testament from the Torah err. All sixty-six books are required to guide each individual from the divided, personal selfish, fearful, greedy, carnal mind, into common-unity, and individualised courageous, caring, sharing and compassionate Universal Mind of God.
The extended chart (thumbnail below) accompanying this Mysteries of the Torah series illustrates how cultures in the past identified the same process of ReGeneration, and how the wise of each culture preserved the teaching. All calls to violence are the product of the Truth contained in each teaching being veiled for personal, Satanic gain.
Each person only finds peace of mind when they have participated in the ReGeneration and are drinking the Living Waters that flow from deep within consciously. Individual peace of mind is essential for social harmony.
One can serve God or mammon: remain in the sleep of death, or enter into the Light of Life. The Mysteries embedded into the Torah teach the WAY, as you have seen from the above excerpt, and from the same pattern preserved in each culture’s sacred scriptures.
